NEW VIRTUAL EXHIBITION OPENS APRIL 22! We are pleased to announce the upcoming virtual exhibition: the cut, the tear & the remix: contemporary collage and Bla...ck futures, curated by stylo starr and presented in partnership with Nia Centre for the Arts! Launching on our website on April 22, the virtual exhibition brings together the work of eight contemporary artists deeply engaged in unearthing a future rooted in their individual ancestral connections to the African and Caribbean diaspora through varied interpretations of collage. Leading up to the opening, we are excited to host a series of virtual events, including a live coding performance with @Illestpreacha on April 7, the long awaited Issue 2 magazine launch of Pitch Mag, a walk through of the virtual exhibition designed by SPATIAL-ESK, and a variety of artist talks. Visit our website for more information and to register! https://museum.mcmaster.ca//new-virtual-exhibition-on-bla/ Image: Yung Yemi, When The Fam Lose Faith Hold Them Up, 2020

Receiving goodies in the mail is a nice pick-me-up during finals seasonwhich is why we’re doing a giveaway! To enter, all you have to do is: 1. Like our page if you haven’t already ... 2. Like this post 3. Tag a friend in the comments below You can comment with a different tagged username as many times as you’d like for multiple, ~unlimited entries~. You can also check out our instagram (@incitemagazine) to enter there. The winner will be selected randomly after the contest closes on April Friday 16 11:59PM EST. Good luck! With this giveaway, we’re also hoping to showcase the work of creators using their art to support justice-related causes like Stop Asian Hate. Since we’re hoping to reimburse students on our allocation of their MSU Bylaw 5 supplementary fees wherever possibleso that we’re spending the minimum amount on our largely online operations and can return the surplus to everyonewe couldn’t include all of the creators we’d wanted to or support a diversity of causes more directly with the limited budget for this initiative. That said, please be sure to check out the work of the creators listed here and support anti-discrimination causes like unistoten.camp, @covidracism.ca, @blmcanada & other initiatives that you’re passionate aboutespecially, look out for any grassroots organization that might be happening in your local area! It’s also very important not to homogenize different experiences as we raise a project like thiswhile still acknowledging the solidarity and intersectionality that can exist between different communities. - Prize list: 1. Paperback copy of ‘Until We Are Free: Reflections on Black Lives Matter in Canada’ 2. Stylish handmade scrunchie 3. 4 vinyl stickers (around 2 inches tall), perfect for laptops, phones, waterbottles, etc.

Meet two more members of our Editorial Board in this Staff Spotlight! Tenzin, our Editor-in-Chief (Content), oversees all of the written pieces that end up in a finished issue of Incite. His role involves managing Content Editors and ensuring that deadlines are met at every step of the submissions process. He is responsible for leading brainstorming meetings, pairing Content Editors with contributors, assigning word counts to contributors, and following up on missed due dates.... Michelle is our Communications Director, meaning that she’s in charge of Incite's social media presence, website, and events. She oversees all of Incite’s main communication channels, creates promotional materials, and sends out regular emails and posts updating Incite staff, contributors, and readers on matters such as submission deadlines and community opportunities. She’s also the one writing this post, and she thinks that it’s strange to be describing herself in the third person.

A new issue & a new look! This is a year of change, so it was only appropriate for Incite Magazine to change up its branding as well! We know that it’s been a long wait for our 2nd issue of the year, HERE, and we’re so proud to share it with you alongside our updated website and new logo. We’re now relaunching as IN SPITE MAGAZINE, a new title that represents how we persevere in spite of our challenges and that also represents how spite is often the reason for the best crea...tive work out there (this part is actually not a joke). We’re also now publishing an issue a day! We hope you’re looking forward to 100+ pages of premium content delivered right to your inbox every morning. We’re hoping to expand to 2 issues a day by the end of the school yearof course, we haven’t actually announced this to our staff team yet, but we’re sure that it’s a welcome surprise, just in time for finals season! Most revolutionary of all, though, we’re also trying out a new way of taking submissions. From now on, we’ll only be accepting contributions by messenger pigeon . Message and data rates may apply. What do you think of these new changes? Let us know in the comments below! And be sure to like, subscribe, and tag your friends so they can enjoy our new ~aesthetic update (And, of course, happy April Fools Day from all of us here at Incite! As the text on the tin says, we hope it’s fun if this is your thing, but also that it’s a nice and relaxing average day if this isn’t your style. Needless to say, this is all in good fun, but we are looking forward to releasing HERE and SOAPBOX soon, and we have other exciting initiatives coming up )
