The University of British Columbia, BC Children’s Hospital Self Injurious Behavior Clinic and the Family Support Institute have applied for and been successful in obtaining a grant to run a series of online training with professional speakers on topics relevant to self-injurious behaviors and treatment options, combined with a peer support model of connection for families as a means to connect with other people who are faced with similar circumstances. All topics will be presented by medical experts in the areas identified, and materials will be provided for families to take to their own medical/specialist teams for consideration.

Free Online Parenting Workshop - Emotional Intelligence Participants wanted for doctors dissertation - looking for parents (with kids 3-18) to complete a free online workshop (approx. 30 mins) and answer some questions before, during and after (10-15 mins). The self-paced workshop will provide 6 research-based strategies parents can use to de-escalate challenging moments with their children, in ways that promote emotional intelligence, strengthen relationships, and help child...ren build their social and emotional skills. In appreciation, all study participants are provided with a download link for a toolkit for parenting with emotional intelligence, and an opportunity to enter a draw for one of 30 CAD $50 Amazon gift vouchers. The workshop is part of a research study on parent online learning. By taking part, participants can help us understand what helps or hinders parent’s learning online, and how we can develop more effective and useful learning resources for parents. This is becoming more important at this time when many parents are having to turn to online resources for parenting advice, and when parents may need more support as families are spending more time together and apart from others. This is the link to the workshop and survey. To find out more email [email protected].
