Law enforcement officers can and will encounter a number of situations where they need to deal with individuals that have various intellectual disabilities and knowing what to do in those situations is very important. That is why Inclusion Weyburn and the Saskatchewan Health Authority have teamed up to create a presentation for the Weyburn Police Service that is all about people who live with intellectual disabilities, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, to help the police members to be more prepared for the future.

The Government of Saskatchewan is engaging the public to help create new accessibility legislation for the province and improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. The Ministry of Social Services has launched an online engagement platform the public can find at www.saskatchewan.ca/accessiblesk to have their voices heard during this process. Online, they can find surveys, register for and attend an online discussion forum, access a discussion guide to fill in, share comments and ask questions. The first phase of engagement will run from February 4 to March 31, 2021.
This year, we've launched a PADLET virtual wall of celebration to acknowledge inclusion champions in our province. On this virtual wall, you will be able to create a post telling us about a teacher, principal, or school in your community that has made inclusion a priority in their classroom or school. You will find instructions on how to post a note, picture, video, or link on the wall. Please help us spread to word by reposting and sharing. The wall will be active throughout the month of February and possibly beyond if there continues to be interest. We look forward to hearing about all the amazing work being done across the province to promote inclusion in our schools.

The housing market for people with intellectual disabilities can feel like navigating a maze without an exit. To demystify the process, a go-to guide for renters with intellectual disabilities, their caregivers and their landlords is being prepared by the National Affordable Housing Corporation, with the help of a $50,000 grant from the Community Housing Transformation Centre.
Please read our open letter requesting vaccination for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Are you interested in facilitating Tell It Like It Is workshops? Have you already been facilitating workshops and have questions about the program or insights to give? Simply interested in the program and wanting to learn more? Please attend our online meeting on Thursday, January 28th from 1:00-2:30 p.m. This will be the first of many regularly scheduled meetings for those facilitating (or interested in facilitating) Tell It Like It Is as we begin to grow our Facilitator’s Network - a place for all those involved with TILII to connect with each other to share resources, collaborate, and receive support. In this preliminary session, we want to get to know you! What have you experienced running TILII workshops? Success stories, challenges, we want to hear it all!

An 18-year-old Saskatoon man represents Saskatchewan in a nation video to promote Canadian Down Syndrome Awareness Week. Noah Bell says he felt happy to be chosen to sing O Canada for the national awareness week and the project was a lot of fun. In a time like this where everyone is so isolated and we can’t see everyone, it brings everyone together across Canada. It shows their skills and abilities and gives them a time shine, said Noah’s mom, Alison Bell.
We've almost hit our fundraising goal but need your help to cross the finish line and continue our work during these challenging times! See the video below to learn more about how we change the lives of persons with intellectual disabilities in Saskatchewan. Donate here: www.inclusionsk.com/breakfast

So that we can continue to support individuals and families without putting them, ourselves, or the community at risk, we want to remind people that we are working remotely, and our offices are closed to the public. All staff will be working regular hours and can be reached either through [email protected] or by voicemail at 306-955-3344. Requests for support can be placed using our intake form. All meetings will be held virtually. All events that cannot be held virtually will remain postponed.
