Independent Powerlifting 03.02.2021

With 14 weeks till the GPC Nationals lifters are back under the bar ready to smash some new PR’s. One concern I have is why do so many lifters want to test their max at the beginning of a training cycle. It has no place, has no merit and makes no sense.... If the plan is to find out where your at so you can build on it for the next 14 weeks you have already started down a rabbit hole. By week 9 of continuous linear progression, your body will be reaching its breaking point. Your mind and body are talking to you, but you won’t listen because your on path to your best ever total. Your social media friends tell you how amazing you are and that your a beast. You will not be denied ! By week 11 the fire in your eyes is diminishing, and your desire for the platform is strained. Yet you push on, knowing your only 10 days away from tapering off and rest. Come weigh ins you are basing your openers on how amazing you were in week 9. Only problem is your nervous system is still exhausted and adrenal fatigue has shut you down ; just carrying your kit bag is a task. Warm ups are not going well and you are just fortunate if you can even get your opening weights. And your left wondering, where did it all go wrong !?!? With over 33 years of competitions under my belt.... I can tell you. Simply put, the powerlifting gods only give you a predetermined number of big lifts. So why waste them in the gym when you could of posted them out on the platform. It is my opinion that if you want to get stronger then you better get faster! As the great Ricky Bobby would say, If you ain’t fast your gunna be last! EXPLOSIVE STRENGTH, or as I refer to it, Lightning in a Bottle . Once that cap comes off it’s GONE! Yes, you all know about it and even claim you incorporate it into your training.... But you don’t !!!!! I’m talking about the kind of bar speed in the squat that could knock the teeth out of your back spotter. Or bench speed that makes the plates sing. Deadlift with such speed you nearly come right out of your own shoes. Well that is if you were wearing shoes?? Holy shit don’t get me going on the shoeless training debacle. Learn to move a lesser load, yet the demand will be greater. If you want to learn more leave me a message.

For our all American friends this event will also count as a US qualifier for the 2020 GPC World Championships.
