The India Centres 5th Annual Gala Awards Dinner was hosted on October 25th, 2019 at the Polo Park Canad Inns. Over 220 guests were seated for a traditional Indian cuisine complete with Ras Malai dessert and Chai tea while Diya candles burned brightly on each table. Ms. Jay Grewal, President and CEO, Manitoba Hydro was the evenings Special Guest Speaker and provided the keynote address. She talked about the recent storm and power outages, thanking Manitoba Hydro employee...s and their hard work getting the lights back on. She then described the four important pillars her parents provided to her and her siblings to complete this fascinating and uplifting message. It was received with a robust standing ovation from the evenings guests! Leading Through Change: A Conversation with Ms. Jay Grewal was a full house last Thursday! Topics of leadership through change, strategy and student preparedness and adaptation in meeting the needs of employers were among the areas discussed. Appointed in February 2019, Jay Grewal is the first woman to hold the position of President and CEO in Manitoba Hydros 58-year history. She has held a series of executive roles in British Columbia and the Northwest Territories in the utility, resource and consulting sectors, including that of Chief Financial Officer of BC Hydro. Ms. Grewal has also been an active member of various non-profit boards, including the BC United Way Campaign Cabinet, the BC Childrens Hospital Miracle Network, and the UBC Board of Governors.
