Make a Valentine's Day Lantern for someone special. This video is on the Southeast Regional Library YouTube channel. This craft is for older children and adult supervision may be needed as an iron is needed. Take and Make Kits are available, limited supplies, to make your lantern at home. https://youtu.be/AyPpTRRy3P0
There's always a way to keep in touch with our little patrons. I'm enjoying storytimes with the pre-k class online. Not quite the same but we're having fun.
Every February, people in Canada are invited to participate in Black History Month festivities and events that honour the legacy of Black Canadians and their co...mmunities. The 2021 theme for Black History Month is: "The Future is Now". The National Film Board (NFB) has selected a group of films that portray the multi-layered lives of Canada's diverse Black communities. The incredible stories of strength, courage and perseverance in the face of adversity that these films present are not often found in mainstream history books. For more information visit https://www.nfb.ca/play/nfb_celebrates_black_history_month/
Watch our Valentine Tumblebooks Storytime and pick up a Take and Make Valentine craft. Supplies are limited. https://youtu.be/BqA9nW4lPdA
Today is Read in the Bathtub Day! Do you do this? On the occasions that I do bathe (I'm a shower person), yes, I do read in the tub.
New juvenile books in the library. They are on our Popular Picks shelf so give us a call if you'd like to borrow.
Do you love the Library? Would you like to help out but don't know where to start? Here's what you can do! Contact us with your email address and we'll add you to our Friends of the Library email list. We will keep you updated on Library happenings, and let you know when we are looking for donations of time or materials. There is no obligation, we simply want to keep you informed. If you would like to become a Friend of the Library, please email us at [email protected] or message us on this Facebook page. This past year has been tough on all of us, including the Libraries. Monetary donations are also very welcome at this time, to help offset the cost of the Take and Make Kits we are trying hard to provide to all ages in our community. Tax receipts are available. Thank you for supporting your Library!
What do you think of when you think of literacy? Reading? There are so many types of literacy, including Financial Literacy, so check out the video explaining the new TAKE AND MAKE KITS available now for FAMILIES. Supplies are limited so give us a call. https://youtu.be/4LMYRnqIL_8
For now, our van delivery will arrive on Thursdays (not Tuesdays) and the Librarian will be processing items on Friday morning. We received ALOT of holds today so watch for a notification if this pertains to you (or give us a call to check). We have holds that have been waiting for two weeks to be picked up. If they are not picked up in two weeks, they are returned to the lending library or sent on to the next person waiting in line, so please be prompt about picking up your holds.
Update - Dec 8 - the library remains closed to the public. Curbside pickup is available for those with holds and requests. If you'd like the librarian to choose books from our shelves, please call 695-3922. Update - Dec 1 - The Indian Head Library is still in our Stage 2 but we will now be receiving van runs so watch your notifications if you are waiting for holds. Please contact us prior to visiting and we will have your items checked out and in the curbside bin in the foyer. We will be re-evaluating our status on a weekly basis so stay tuned for updates.
Here is our January calendar, which is subject to change, as we have a couple other fun things in the works. We will be receiving the Winter Outdoor Makerspace Kit, which will give our patrons the opportunity to try out snowshoes in the snow-filled area around the library. Please see the attached page for more information. Take and Make Kits to promote financial literacy for kids are in the works so watch for an update on that.
It takes time and creativity to put together the craft/storytime videos and craft kits for our patrons. Which is why I love receiving pictures of your completed projects. Makes me feel its not a total waste of time and that what we have been doing this past crazy year has been worth it. Thanks for all your support these past months.

I'm sure holiday baking is on the minds of many people or soon will be. What do you make for the holidays that you never make any other time of the year? Or if you don't make it yourself, what do you enjoy most? I make whipped shortbread for my family (I don't really care for it) and a slice called Mystery Cake that my mom always made. I've cut back on the baking, though, because no one seems to eat it.

Light therapy is thought to affect brain chemicals linked to mood and sleep, easing SAD (seasonal affective disorder) symptoms. Using a light therapy box may also help with other types of depression, sleep disorders and other conditions.
