When you grew up, did you already know then, what you wanted to be or to make in this world? As kids we experience our world with open eyes, and often early in life, certain personality traits or talents are showing up when we were quite young. I guess my talent showed up when I had great interest in creating things out of fabric, yarn and leather. My great grandmother taught me how to sew on her Pfaff treadle sewing machine at age 10.... When I was about 12 years old I started making my own clothes. Figuring out by myself and with the help of Burda magazines how clothes where done and how patterns fit together. My love for using leather as a material was ignited back then too, cause I had access to the dump site of our local tannery, which wasn’t a safe place to go to. I sneaked in to their grounds and was caught by the factory owner. She didn’t want me to go to their dump site, so she gave me a nice piece of leather to play with, but I had to promise her not to come back. In my teenage years, I already had a good sense for business. I knitted sweaters and sold them to my friends, or embroidered jeans jackets with elaborate designs with ‘Make Love not War’ symbols. These were my early beginnings, learning and figuring out how to become better gave me confidence back then.
