As a nation that has frequently championed the Rule of Law at home and abroad, transforming Canadian law to ensure Indigenous people have the opportunity to thr...ive as unique peoples goes to its very ethic. The United Nations Declaration Act, therefore, constitutes the minimum standard for the survival and dignity of Indigenous peoples. Its implementation must also be seen as a moral and spiritual concern, necessary for the renewal of these lands now collectively referred to as Canada. As leaders within the Indigenous evangelical community, we urge everyone to personally support Bill C-262, The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and to invite others in your communities to do the same. Our second annual Camp and Powwow, jointly sponsored by Indigenous Pathways and the Salvation Army in Canada, just concluded at Pine Lake Camp, Pine Lake, AB. What an incredible increase over last year's attendance and what a warm response from all. Thanks to the Salvation Army - especially the Territorial Commander, Commissioner Susan McMillan, and her cabinet, for their continued support. Thanks also and very deeply to my little sister, Shari Russell, for her diligence in pursuing reconciliation through her work with the Salvation Army as National Indigenous liaison.
