Currently there is no diagnostic test to confirm if someone has sustained a concussion, therefore recognizing the signs and symptoms of a concussion is extremely important! Here are some of the SIGNS that may indicate a concussion has occurred. - Significant impact to the head or body - Loss of consciousness (BUT remember many concussions are sustained WITHOUT loss of consciousness) - Lying motionless... - Clutching the head or helmet - Difficulty getting up, stumbling, incoordination, slowed movement or disorientation - Blank or vacant stare - Inability to communicate, unable to respond to questions or slurred speech - Vomiting Always remember - WHEN IN DOUBT, SIT THEM OUT! If you or a loved one have recently sustained a concussion or are suffering from post concussion syndrome call us today! Both our Cambridge and Georgetown locations offer concussion rehabilitation services. #Cambridge #georgetown #physiotherapy #traumaticbraininjury #concussion #concussionmanagement

Dizziness is very common post-concussion and can persist if not treated properly. To eliminate and properly treat your dizziness it is crucial that the cause of your dizziness is accurately diagnosed. There are various reasons an individual may suffer from dizziness post-concussion i.e. inner ear dysfunction, whiplash, visual impairments, blood pressure changes and more. Here at InFocus Rehabilitation our therapists have advanced training in concussion management and can help you overcome that persistent dizziness!

Feeling thankful today! Thankful that medicine has evolved and that we no longer use Vibration Therapy like they did in 1890 to treat headaches. Just looking at this picture is giving me a headache!

Are you experiencing VERTIGO when rolling in bed, sitting up from bed, or lying down in bed? Vertigo associated with moving in bed is typically the result of a mechanical issue in the inner ear, referred to as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). BPPV occurs when crystals (otoconia) become dislodged and fall into an area of the inner ear where they do not belong. Fortunately BPPV is something that can be treated! Treatment includes the use of a maneuver, which is a very specific series of head movements that use gravity to guide the crystals back to where they belong. InFocus Rehabilitation Centre has physiotherapists at both our Cambridge and Georgetown locations that have extensive experience in treating BPPV. So stop dreading getting into bed and call us today. You will be happy you did!

September 13-19th is Balance Awareness Week. The purpose of this campaign is to help enhance the public’s knowledge and understanding of balance-related vestibular disorders. Approximately 1 in 5 people will suffer from some type of vestibular dysfunction. Even with such a high occurrence rate, the word vestibular is still not well understood. The purpose of this year’s campaign is to raise awareness around vestibular impairments and enhance the public’s knowledge regardi...ng the vestibular system. The hope is that with a better understanding of the vestibular system individuals will be better equipped to advocate for themselves, therefore receiving a proper diagnosis and the appropriate care at a faster rate. InFocus Rehabilitation Centre has been treating vestibular impairments for over 10 years. Our therapists have advanced training and extensive experience in the field of vestibular rehabilitation. Jaw pain preventing you from eating? This could be a result of a temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). TMD can be caused by muscular imbalances, disruption of the temporomandibular joint itself, and/or degenerative changes. Physiotherapy is commonly used to treat TMD by reducing pain and inflammation, and improving movement and function of the joint. Both our Cambridge and Georgetown locations offer TMD treatment.
