WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL TRAINING? Functional training is essentially just a workout with a purpose: to improve physical activities elsewhere in life. In most cases, the aim is to get better at everyday activities like comfortably squatting to pick something up, safely carrying objects or sprinting for the bus. A functional training session will strengthen you in a way that enhances your life outside of exercise, making daily activities more comfortable, and more natural, to perfo...rm. Functional training focuses on movement patterns with a real-world objective. Functional training typically uses weight-bearing activities that work the core muscles in the torso as well as multiple joint exercises known as compound movement. By comparison, most fitness plans focus on isolation training, such as upper body vs lower body or even more specifically training the biceps or just the shoulders. Isolation training targets muscles in a way that doesn't always reflect (or best support) the real-life, natural actions we make as we go about our day Some benefits of functional training are: - IMPROVE FUNCTION - FUNCTIONAL TRAINING IS SCALEABLE - FUNCTIONAL TRAINING INCREASES COORDINATION, BALANCE, POSTURE AND FLEXIBILITY. - FUNCTIONAL TRAINING HELPS WITH JOINT PAIN. - FUNCTIONAL TRAINING REDUCES THE RISK OF INJURY. - FUNCTIONAL TRAINING BUILDS FUNCTIONAL MUSCLE. - FUNCTIONAL TRAINING GIVES YOU A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR BODY.

This is Tatiana, she has done such a major transformation in such a small period of time. It’s moments like this that make me love my job, seeing a transformation within an individual, watching someones confidence sky rocket, seeing the true abilities of the human spirit. We met about 4 weeks ago, she has been training twice a week and is on a customized nutrition plan. She has only been on the plan for 3 weeks and has already lost 15lbs and 11 total inches on her body S...he had foot surgery Dec 18th 2019 so today it has been exactly one year out from surgery. She didn’t have the confidence to run/jog, go onto her tippy toes, or any kind of push off from her feet. During her work day she would have pain in her feet and could only walk for about 15 minutes before she had to take a break. Now there are no breaks, she can walk for long periods of time without any pain! With all her hard work that she has put in she has already transformed into a new human. We have her jogging now, going on her tippy toes, and doing so many exercises that she didn’t think she could do.

5 Reasons Why You Should Train With Kettlebells 1. Movement Quality Reigns Supreme Without proper movement quality, your risk of injury increases. It is important to be able to identify, address and improve imbalances in strength, stability and control. Without corrections, imbalances will continue to get worse and increase the risk of injury.... 2. Perfect the Hinge Pattern The hinge is arguably the best pattern for both athletes and non-athletes. The time spent sitting, has turned off our glutes and made us a quad-dominant culture. Learning to use the posterior chain through Deadlifts (both single-leg and double-leg versions) and Swings will improve overall athleticism. The Swing is a great training tool to teach you how to use your hips. 3. The Squat, Done Properly This may offend some of you, but the truth is many young athletes are simply not ready for the Barbell Back Squat, and most aren't ready to properly squat with load. Although the Squat is one the most effective ways to add lower-body strength, most athletes have a restriction that causes a fault. 4. Shoulder Health and Posture We all know that posture suffers from being in class, sitting on the couch and playing video games. The kettlebell is a fantastic tool to reverse detrimental postural effects and strengthen the shoulders. From Turkish Get-Ups to Halos and Single-Arm Military Presses, the kettlebell and shoulder health are a match made in heaven. 5. Power Everyone is looking to improve power. The Kettlebell Swing is perfect for preparing to meet the demands of hip extension in Olympic lifts. After you learn the Deadlift, almost all exercises build off your ability to perform the hinge pattern and produce maximal force, sending the bell's force outward. I could get carried away, but the takeaway is this: Kettlebell Swings not only increase your ability to produce power, they also strengthen your glutes, hamstrings, lower back and lungs. Performing Swings for power and volume should be a part of everyone's program.

2017 vs 2020 What a journey it has been I remember when I first moved to this location and all wanted was all the new toys in the industry. I had to constantly sit back and remind myself it all comes with time. I can say now that I have everything that I envisioned for the gym, it might of taken a little longer then I expected but timing is everything. I can’t thank all my former, current and future clients enough for the constant support they have given me. ... Don’t stop pushing for your goals until you get there. No matter what speed bumps, hills, or falls you have to overcome. They are always within your reach! How badly do you truly want it is what needs to be asked over and over again. Never give up on yourself or your goals, always be proud of the little accomplishments as it’s the little accomplishments that guide us to the bigger accomplishments. I want to thank you all for the continued support and love especially in these times. It’s you that keep the heart of the economy going by supporting local, stay safe and healthy out there y’all

What are these curved treadmills I keep seeing everywhere??? When compared to flat, motorized treadmills, curved treadmills offer many advantages for walkers and runners It uses more muscle groups... The self-powered nature of curved treadmills makes it similar to walking outside, requiring the user to recruit more from the hamstrings, glutes and core to propel the body forward. It increases calorie burn Studies have shown curved treadmills can help you burn about 30% more calories than you would doing the same workout on a flat treadmill. It improves endurance Pushing the belt requires more energy expenditure, which in turn elevates your heart rate and improves your VO2 max. It rewards good form A curved treadmill requires you to take shorter steps, use your core for power and speed up your cadence to keep the belt moving. Curved treadmills can be a great way to burn more calories, work on your form and build strength in your legs, glutes and core. Try incorporating them into your routine as a way of keeping things fresh.

Mobility time!! I would say as a trainer the one thing that is lacking when it comes to fitness regimes is flexibility and mobility Give this one a shot, simple three move movement that you do individually and then once all 3 moves are completed we combine them all together. ... 4 rounds (movement 1,2,3) 45’s work, 15’s rest 1 min rest once completed. Finisher!! (Movement 4) Once completed all 4 rounds combine together as a finisher 3 x10/10 (10 on each side) 1-2min recovery break

Sydney has been training with us for some time now and the improvements through her core, strength, endurance, flexibility and balancers have improved ten fold. I can’t express how much I love my job watching all my clients transform into better versions of themselves. It’s one of the most amazing things to see how the body can adapt to different motor patterns. In order for these patterns to truly change you must get used to getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. That is truest and only way to succeed in this life of ours.

Working on explosiveness and fast feet today with the hockey boys. Coaches prize athletes who are quick on their feet, because they give the whole team an edge. The ability to spontaneously move fast in multiple directions can mean the difference between a win and a loss. The multi-directional sprints (e.g., backpedaling, running forward, diagonally and laterally) are excellent drills for sports where you must instantly change direction to get to a ball or chase an opponent. Single-leg hopping movements improve balance and are excellent for sports such as wrestling, basketball and football.
