National Tartan Day in Canada! TARTAN DAY CELEBRATIONS Tartan Day has been celebrated in Canada since 1986, when the idea of celebrating heritage and our history became a wonderful project in Nova Scotia headed by Jean Watson, Scot of the Year in 2007. Ms. Watson and her team worked very hard to promote April 6 as Tartan Day, and after 10 years they had every province on board. The date marks the Declaration of Arbroath, signed in 1320 in Scotland. ... Did you know that 15% of Canadians claim Scottish heritage, with the Irish claiming a close 14%? See more

The International Bagpipe Organization and the Bagpipe Society co-founded the celebration of International Bagpipe Day in 2012. They have helped to bring the bagpipe to new players since 1986. It is important to them that the history and playing of the bagpipes are not lost. Putting this day together was with the hope of bringing awareness of the over 130 different types of bagpipe throughout the world. The Ingersoll Pipe Band salutes all pipers, drummers, and enthusiasts across the world.

Happy International Women's Day from the IPB! Here is a page taken out of our March 2018 Newsletter highlighting the All Female Robbie Burns' Night entertainment corps from January 2018. Early female IPB members included Piper Connie Collins (1960), Piper Carol Howieson (1966) Drummer Janice Haycock (1964), Drummer Susan Hayes(1967) and Drummer Debbie Pearson (1968). Today the IPB is made up of several women - pipers, snare drummers and tenor drummers! Lots of women are part ...of our "Learners" groups as well - beginners and intermediates. So let's celebrate their dedication to bagpipe music. If you want to know how long female pipers have been on the scene, read the excellent report form Bagpipe News https://bagpipe.news//how-women-gained-equal-status-in-th/ https://bagpipe.news//how-women-gained-equal-status-in-th/

The IPB is very sad to share with you the news that a valued member of the band, Bill Allen, recently passed away. Details are available at https://www.mcbeathdynes.ca//william-all/4368456/index.php Condolences to his brother and his family. "We are saddened with the loss of Bill. He was an all round nice guy always willing to help where he could. His 50 plus years as a valued member of the Ingersoll Pipe Band speaks volumes of his dedication to the band. Bill was a Tenor a...nd Bass drummer with the band and we will miss him dearly. Memories as young boy to an to a mature gentleman are scattered amongst the pictures on the walls of our Hall and will allow us to keep him in our memories as a long time dedicated member. We played a tune in his honor at last night's practice. Rest in Peace Bill." Pipe Major Doug Collins See more
