In Her Circle 23.11.2020

It’s my birthday today! And what a transformational year it has been. This time last year, I threw a birthday party for myself, invited over friends and made dinner, mocktails and treats. I was still keeping my pregnancy a secret and hoped no one would notice that I wasn’t drinking. To be honest, there was a huge part of me that was in denial that I was about to become a mom. I was constantly pushing it out of my mind even as my belly grew. It wasn’t until I lost my job i...n March that I was finally forced to confront the fact that a baby was on its way in less than 8 weeks and my world would be forever changed. Since becoming a mom, my heart has been cracked wide open. I have been forced to be present with myself and to confront things from the past that I thought I had moved past (isn’t growth fun?). I have learned new things about myself (like how I’m a highly sensitive person) and how that is a gift (and not a flaw, like what I had been taught to believe). Knowing that I’m a HSP makes so much of my life make sense and why I react the way that I do. It has also given me the tools to create such a warm and welcoming community because I can read the room, pick up on other people’s feelings, and instinctively know how to make someone else feel more at ease. Adding motherhood to my life has been scary, challenging, and eye opening. I have learned more about myself in the past 6 months than I have in a long time. I have way more boundaries and protect my time so much more than before. I am present with my daughter, and she often reminds me when I’m not. Before this, I didn’t know that life could feel this full. So, thank you for being part of my journey and this community. I am so blessed to have met so many incredible and inspiring women because of In Her Circle, and now I have the honor to raise one. Cheers to another trip around the sun!

Group photos look different these days, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t achieve some high quality connection. We kicked off Build Your Circle last night with a virtual version of #findyourwingwoman where the ladies were able to connect in a fun, low-stress way. I love including conversation starters for these types of moments to help encourage more engaging conversations with each other. Can’t wait for our DIY cookie decorating night with @cakeifystudio_yyc this Sunday! Might have to pick up some extra goodies for myself while I’m grabbing the kits. #buildyourcircle

This week's #wingwoman is for my multi-passionate ladies - everyone, meet Lauren Neves! Lauren is an engineer by day, but her true passion revolves around her faith and travel. She shares all of her adventures on her travel blog, Lauren's Lighthouse, and her hope is that her work inspires her readers to find their purpose, their own passions, and to create their own lighthouse. In our interview, Lauren shares how spending time with her fiancé and close friends energizes her, how she aims to serve others in what she creates, and how she keeps her faith at the center of everything. Cookie DIY Decorating night with Build Your Circle, featuring the kits from CAKEify Studio. It was such a fun night filled with sugar, concentration, and creation. Tapping into our creative sides was so relaxing, and even if the vision did not quite make it out onto the cookie for some of us (ME ), one thing stays true - every cookie tasted delicious.

I’m so excited to share that I was a guest on the Girl Tries Life podcast with Victoria (@stresslessladies)! In our interview, we chat about how making real connections and friendships as an adult is much harder than when we were on the playground. Then you add in physical distancing, the constraints of a pandemic and adulting in general, and it's a wonder we have time for friendship. We talk about what it takes to make real connections, both in person and virtually. If you've ever moved to a new city, started a new job, or a new phase of life and felt lonely, this one is for you. https://podcasts.apple.com//girl-tries-life-/id1210057378
