Most personal growth happens in relationships. The very purpose of relationship is personal evolution of both parties involved - in relationship we are pushed to evaluate our values and beliefs, and face our hidden insecurities that need healing. The relationship remains healthy if we are willing to stretch and expand our comfort zone, in other words, this is how we grow and become mentally mature. We need all kinds of relationship: romantic relationship, same gender friends...hips, relationships with people in our community, etc. Today's post is about the importance of female friendships that is different from relationship you have with with your husband/partner. When guys get together, the testosterone dictates how they relate to each other. Usually it is a solution oriented conversations, with elements of boasting to keep up their esteem in front of other men, or relating aroud same interests kind of friendship. When women get together, estrogen is in the air.. Estrogen gets rebuild when women hang out together, talk about their emotions, care for each other. Listening and validation takes precedence over solutions. We talk about our marriages, our sex life and details about our significant others and the family that most guys rarely discuss. Although men are our counterparts, there is something beyond special about the female bond that women have with each other. Cultivating female friendship is important for women's mental health, and selecting the kind of friend that is supportive and accepting of who you are becomes important if you want to live your life consciously and intentionally. Most parents find parenting challenging. Understandably.. I believe that we are too preoccupied with all the parenting strategies to help our kids to "do better" and we don't pay enough attention to WHO WE ARE as parents, and to how to cultivate a better parent in us. I often ask my kids for feedback on my parenting and it has proven to be more helpful than any book I have read. Try following questions with your kids: - what is your favorite thing about living in our home? ...- what is your least favorite thing about living with us? - how did you feel loved today? - describe me and daddy in three words - what would you change in mommy and daddy if you had a magic wand? - how can we love you better? - what is your favorite part when we are together as a family? Kids don't do what we tell them to do - kids do what we do. There is such thing as mirror neurons that helps babies to learn a language and other skills, meaning that kids mimic our behavior unconsciously. Be mindful of that. Become the kind of parent your child needs you to be and it is not just your child that will benefit, you will grow too.
