After gaining the full range of motion, increasing endurance and strength, and retraining balance is important. Regained and/or improved balance is necessary to ensure a full and functional movement of the body. The ability to balance will increase patient's confidence as it allows our bodies to move with stability and reduce the risk of falls/reinjury. Here is a fun way of training balance 3 sets of 30 seconds... 1. We started off with a double leg stance on an airex pad 2. Progression: Single leg on an airex pad 3. Progression: Single leg on an airex pad with volleyball toss Once patient becomes comfortable, change the proprioceptive surface (airex pad to bosu ball) 4. Double leg stance on a bosu ball 5. Progression: Double leg stance on a bosu ball with ball toss 6. Progression: Single leg stance on a bosu ball 7. Progression: Single leg stance on a bosu ball with ball toss Another way to progress is to increase the duration of the exercise.
