Queen's Inn 23.11.2020

This is my family's 50th year in business in Downtown Kingston!" - Richard Mitchell, co-owner of @thequeensinnhotel #peopleofdowntown #peopleofdowntownYGK ... The Queen's Inn is an historic 19th-century inn co-owned by Richard Mitchell and his sister Kathy Cornell. Richard's parents, Ron and Ruby purchased the hotel in 1970 and the family has now owned and operated the inn for 50 years. The Queen's Inn was established in 1928 by Wolfe Island businessman Martin Staley and remains one of the oldest, continually operating inns in Canada. Between 1839- 1970, The Queen's Inn went through many different names and owners, but in 1970 that changed. As Richard says, "my father was a risk-taker" and "wanted to do something different". In January 1970, Richard's parents purchased what was known as "The Queen's Hotel". Richard began his career as a teacher in Ottawa but soon came back to Kingston to help his parents and a family business was born. Since the passing of their parents, Richard and his sister Kathy own the inn together. The original inn had just three bathrooms for 24 guest rooms now all 17 rooms have their own ensuite. Fun fact : in the 19th century original hotel, guestrooms were equipped with thick ropes attached to the wall with a big round hook - a safety measure in case guests needed a fire escape out the window! The Queen's Inn features 2 restaurants - 'Coppers Pub' and 'The Sports Tap & Grill'. Did you miss out on their delicious Thanksgiving dinner? Don't worry- you still have a chance. The Queen's Inn is offering Thanksgiving dinner for American Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26th!
