There is lots of conversation on face shields these days. Not a lot of research using it without a mask. But this what I found. Dr. Alison Haddock, with Baylor College of Medicine, offered some advice. "I think face shields are a good alternative to masks in a situation and for people for whom masks might be a bit of a challenge, Haddock began. Especially for people who may have hearing difficulties and need to see faces and facial expressions, face shields can be a good op...tion if other people are having sensory issues. One recent, yet unpublished, study by Israel Institute for Biological Research used water-sensitive paper stuck around the face of a mannequin wearing a plastic face shield. For larger droplets sprayed directly into the wearers face from 60 cm (2 feet) away by a cough or sneeze, it was as effective as a face mask. The shield also appeared to be up to 10x more effective against fine aerosols than the mask. In some instances, face shields are allowed in schools for special education, language immersion and an approved requested accommodation. #faceshields
