I didn't realize how heavy a rug can be until I was at the top of the ladder trying to hang this and get it level! Next time I bring another person!
We created this for the new boardroom of a Cultural Council. My friend Jana talked us through the process, my sister, Jean, wove it, Pat Scott built the frame, my friend Caroline loaned me her garage for assembly and my son Tom helped with the transport and installation. I so appreciate those around me and the support I'm constantly offered!
This was a model of the winter home of the Sepwepemc people I made for the Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin. It is based upon the very detailed drawings of James Teit, a Shetlander and ethnologist who lived in BC and married a Nlaka’pamux woman. He also worked with German- American Franz Boas, who studied languages of BC and whose records are important to the revitalisation of BC indigenous languages today. This is why I love the work I do. I'm always learning.
These are a few of the mounts I made for a very cool exhibit pod designed by Double Dare Designs for the City of Delta Museum.
