Cone Snails have an arsenal of tools and weapons under their pretty shells. These reef-dwelling hunters nab their prey in microseconds, then slowly eat them alive.

We *hit the right note* with our first dive of the #Okeanos Deep-Sea Symphony expedition, finding a stunning community of corals and sponges yesterday on "Tropi...c of Cancer" seamount. We'll be doing it again today at a site dubbed "Beach Seamount," after the American composer and pianist, Amy Marcy Cheney Beach. UPDATE: The ship got to the site earlier than expected, so the dive is now starting at 9 am HST (3 pm EDT), and it'll take us about two hours to reach our target depth of 3,200 meters (2 miles!!). Stay tuned for more info!

Please Share, Like and Comment! This Coconut Octopus is so much fun to watch. This was filmed during a night dive in Anilao Philippines. This little guy has found refuge inbetween 3 sea shells. As you can see it uses them for protection while it hunts for food.

A bit of relaxation for your Monday! Watching these anemone fish is always very calming. Shot at Wahoo Point in PNG.
There is always something special about diving in the coral triangle. It is especially amazing in Papua New Guinea. Have a look at some of the creatures of Milne Bay in this 'Rolling in the Deep' episode.
Of course, it's easier for me to shoot jellyfish than whale sharks. Jellyfish move much slower. BUT to film the jellyfish when a whale shark circling around is... not very easy Sail Rock Divers and CORE sea Music by GrooveWorx - Hollow Sun Source https://vimeo.com/219399803 RAW footage https://www.pond5.com/artist/kovban#1/2063

Two years ago on this date (August 9, 2015), we explored the south side of Bank 9, located about 50 nautical miles south of Pearl and Hermes Atoll. This was the... eighth dive within the 'Campaign to Address Pacific monument Science, Technology, and Ocean NEeds', or CAPSTONE. CAPSTONE is an initiative to collect deepwater baseline information to support science and management decisions in and around U.S. marine protected areas in the central and western Pacific. We've since conducted many, many CAPSTONE dives and seen many, many spectacular things. On September 6, 2017, we'll set out for the Deep-Sea Symphony: Exploring the Musicians Seamounts expedition, our last expedition in the campaign...stay tuned for details! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zyXWn-WVfJY J'ai adopté un koran junior il y a quelques mois, je le vois grandir et j'ai hâte de le voir devenir adulte, comme celui-ci. Une autre de mes joies!
Nudi friendship or Nudi love? Wasn't sure if I arrived late to the sexual festivities or if these two Hypselodoris sp's were just hangin in a 'just friends' kind of way. Either way, they are beautiful and colorful and I was happy they let me film them.
Here is the second video from our stay at Atmosphere Resorts & Spa in the Philippines. Dauin and the wider Dumaguete area is well known for its exceptional mac...ro/muck diving. It is however just as amazing for wide angle opportunities due to its close proximity to the reefs of Apo Island and the village of Oslob famous for its whalesharks. There are not many places in the world where you can see pygmy seahorses and Shaun the Sheep nudibranch in the morning and then go for a guaranteed encounter with a whaleshark in the afternoon! These encounters with Manta Rays at the Boiler in Socorro are just amazing. They happen all the time! Not just a freak encounter. This is hands down the best... place for Giant Pacific Manta Ray encounters. If you haven't had the chance to go there...What are you waiting for? These mantas seek our diver interaction. Normally you don't want to swim after them, but here, they will stop and wait for you to catch up. Incredible! Please Like and Share!
Is this perhaps the prettiest fish in the sea? The fish you are watching is a juvenile Emperor Angelfish. Like many angelfish, juveniles sport colouration and p...atterning vastly different from adults. While adult Emperor Angelfish exhibit alternating yellow and blue horizontal stripes on their sides; white, black, and yellow coloration around the head (including a raccoon mask across the eyes); and a bright-yellow tail fin, juveniles have a dark blue to black base colour with light-blue to white lines forming vertical stripes and concentric circles on their flanks. What do you think is the most beautiful fish in the sea?

Nudibranchs are slow-moving hermaphroditic predators related to snails. These wild weirdos dwell on the ocean floor where they creep around munching on corals, ...sponges, barnacles, other nudis and sometimes jellyfish. There are more than 3,000 species of nudis globally. Check out our latest video showing the bizarrely beautiful diversity of nudibranchs. #nudibranch #oceans #wildandweird #werido #nudibynature Video by Russ McSpadden / Center for Biological Diversity
