Surviving entrepreneurship is a day to day battle. Some days there are incredible highs where you feel like you can do ANYTHING. And others, well you feel like you’ve sacrificed too much and will never truly make it. Only the strong shall survive I tell ya! After having a convo with my good friend (a few weeks ago now) I found myself ranting and thought I should share a few thoughts. Knowledge is power and if consumers are empowered maybe it’ll help you understand my whys ...and my how’s and help you look at products and businesses and your power as an individual a little differently. I often hear eek, that is expensive shit, why so pricey and I can totally relate to wondering the same thing about 5 years ago. Thennnn I incorporated my business. There are so many behind the scene costs that are shared solely by you that no one sees and well, need to be paid for out of what little profits small businesses make! Just to name a few, in no particular order: Manufacturing the actual product costs $ Fabric ain’t cheap Tags and labels Patterns, grading, samples, fit changes Models, photography, editing Website and email costs Business cards and promotional goods Packaging and shipping costs What about our hard earned time? ...When others are enjoying a baby snuggle or working 9-5, I am conjuring up ways to promote my product, strengthen my brand and deliver quick and painless service and end up working 24/7. There are no holidays or paid be benefits. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE what I do. I love my brand, I think my products are invaluable especially with a ton of other youth brands closing but it’s tough shit I won’t lie. I am so grateful we are still around and hoping for a full booming teamwear and fall season in 2021. Until then, please be kind to your small business owners. I’m not saying buy a hoodie, but share the brands you love, talk about them, word of mouth is still HUGE for awareness, check in on us! And for the people in the back, our stuff isnt expensive, they’re cost with the lowest possible margin to survive but making products is expensive. Working from home...It’s always a balancing act. Some days I work work work.. email. Spreadsheets. Calls. Social. Today I decided to have a little me time if you will. Insert an On demand express spin class from @corespinclub. Boyyyy am I ever rusty!! @mcraetyler kicked my butt but it felt good! It wasn’t easy. My lady love woke up AFTER ONE SONG, and I nearly gave up. 30 min class took almost 60 to complete but I figured if not now, when? I have yet to start this journal ...but I am excited to. A little perspective each day is just what the doctor ordered. Here’s to balance..may it come easy, but be it difficult, may you be stubborn enough to keep going for it! See more
