Preparing the drum for paint. The drum echoes the heartbeat of our mothers. It is a symbol of life on Earth. The drum is a strong instrument that brings power to the drummer. This power encourages people to use their voices. Drumming is the process of Healing and Celebration. The skins of the animal are gifted for our healing and connection to the earth. Rawhide is stretched over a wooden frame, varying in size and thickness which gives each drum a distinct voice and sound. Each animal and the tree from which the drum is made have their own unique medicines. This drum will be gifted for auction so that it may pass into the hands of its keeper. May it strengthen your voice and help your heart sing its beautiful song

Last year, Human Concern International came to the aid of +50 indigenous families, providing much-needed winter gear packages to get children through the winter.... Many of the families came to us to pick up their packages (consisting of jackets, hats, gloves, and other winterwear), and seeing the joy on their faces was invaluable to us. We also gave out winter packages to the Akwesasne reserve. Danielle Oakes, who received the packages on behalf of the Akwesasne reserve, said that many of the children live in conditions similar to that of third world countries. Danielle passed on the appreciation of the Akwesasne for our discrete registration that respects the privacy and dignity of the community. It was an amazing initiative, and we hope that this year, with your help, we can do even more for indigenous communities in Canada!
