Good morning yogis I have an exciting new program to share with all of you. Join me on January 31, 11am MST, to begin this 8 week journey (40+ hours towards Yoga Alliance certification), to get to know the geography of your nervous system, how to soothe and self-regulate, and get access to a vast world of exploration and creation. Yoga Nidra is a modern practice based on ancient teachings that combines the art of meditation (to become familiar with), with deep restoratio...n (healing), focus (self-control), and fine-tuning awareness (discernment) to curate the mind architecture you desire (manifestation). It’s a fascinating practice as it showcases the nervous system states beautifully and gifts clear insights into where one is stuck or blinded to their own behavioral platform of survival, and how to overcome and grow through stagnancy back into flow. For IYI students, alumni or prospects, I am offering this program for $210, a 50% reduction in the regular investment. All videos, booklets and information for this program will be delivered through Teachable, and our weekly zoom call will be through zoom. Up to 10 additional hours can be accredited for those who would like the ongoing 1 on 1 support and experiential learning throughout the 8 week journey, at a special discounted personalized coaching price of $110 per session. Reach out to [email protected] with any questions or to reserve your spot in this program. I look forward to co-creating some magic with you.

OK, this photo made us giggle because, in many ways, 2020 was the year of the mask. This image also inspired us to think about what we want to leave behind as we mark the last day of 2020. As much as face masks were a new reality and, for many, something uncomfortable to get used to, we at IYI are grateful for them because they made it possible for us to meet in person for part of our 2020 yoga teacher training program. Masks allowed us to connect with each other and also k...eep each other safe in teacher training and in our everyday interactions with others. As funny as we think this photo is, face masks are going to be with us in the new year. What we hope to leave behind is the isolation and fear that has been part of navigating the pandemic this year. Here’s to compassion, connection and good health in 2021. (Photo by Immo Wegmann on Unsplash)

We want to learn with you in 2021! Last year has seen some interesting shifts in how we show up in the world. We at Inspired Yoga Institute have pivoted and pivoted again to learn and grow as teachers and teacher trainees. Our biggest challenges also turned out to be our greatest opportunities for learning and growth. One thing we learned is how valuable it is to learn in person. Nothing replaces being in the same room, responding and exploring as questions and curiositie...s arise. Since it will be likely that there will be restrictions on group gatherings as we move into the new year.. . Once the winter is over and the weather improves, we are confident that we can gather and learn together. Another challenge that became a great opportunity for us and our trainees, is the ways we can offer online learning. We are continuing to expand into the ways that online and self-directed learning can enhance the teacher training experience. The later start to the 2021 program provides time and space for the IYI team to add meaningful content that can be delivered in fresh ways. Curious if 2021 is the year to explore yoga more deeply? Reach out to us with your questions! Our link is in the bio for more information! (Photo by Conscious Design on Unsplash)

We are days away from the beginning of a new year. One of the things that 2020 has taught us is that anything can happen. What will 2021 bring? As we know, yoga practices help us navigate the unexpected and the unknown and can go a long way to smoothing out the bumps and detours we encounter along the road of life. Another valuable source of support can be found in the stories and teachings of those who have found inspiration and a sense of purpose through their life journeys.... Every year, Nora likes to draw upon that wisdom with an inspirational book to read before she sits for meditation. Here are two books that she comes back to time and again. Meditations from the Mat by Rolf Gates: The 365 meditations are based on the eight-limb path of yoga and offer a way to integrate the mindfulness that yoga teaches into everyday life. Journey to the Heart by Melody Beattie: Through 365 daily meditations, Beattie takes readers on a journey of peace, healing and power that inspires readers to unlock their personal creativity and sense of purpose. These are just two of many resources offering daily inspiration. Do you have a favourite book of meditations or readings that inspires you? Have you chosen what you would like to read in the new year? Please share in the comments below.

Posted @withregram @noramaskey Book Review - Embrace Yoga’s Roots: ... Courageous ways to deepen your yoga practice By Susanna Barkataki Bartaki has put together a useful and supportive book on how to honour the roots of yoga and ways to avoid cultural appropriation. Many have said that this book belongs in Yoga teacher training programs, and I agree. She writes that, at its roots, Yoga aims at curing our personal and social ills. And one of those ills is separation. The yuj of yoga is about the opposite - unity. In fact, she says that anything that doesn’t lead towards unity is not Yoga. She also writes that unity does not mean erasing or ignoring someone’s reality or lived experience. As such, Yoga is inherently a science of social justice that leads to liberation for ourselves and others, collectively." With kindness and gentleness, Bartaki invites readers to look at ways they may be appropriating Yoga by helping us to understand the causes and effects of colonization, cultural appropriation, privilege, tokenizing, glamorization, sterilization, and so much more. I particularly appreciate that Bartaki not only identifies many of the ways in which cultural appropriation of Yoga shows up in the West in particular, she offers doable ideas and suggestions on ways that teachers like me can honour the roots of Yoga. Curious about how you, as a yoga teacher, can honour the roots of yoga? I highly recommend this book! @noramaskey

Imagine this. You step into the studio. It smells of yoga, spirit, joy, calmness... it smells like home. You unroll your mat. Place your bare feet and hands on it, maybe for the first time that day, maybe for the 1,000th time in your life. ... Inhale. Exhale. What is one question that comes to your mind as you embark on your own journey or on your journey as a teacher? What can we answer for you?
