Chilblains alert with record-breaking cold temperatures! Chilblains are red, itchy swellings on the skin that occur as a reaction to sudden change to cold temperatures. They are often painful but that can be reduced by keeping the feet warm in thick cotton socks. If your chilblains become ulcerated or infected, please have them assessed and treated by one of our chiropodists as soon as possible!

Myth: All bunions are alike. Fact: Not only do they vary in terms of causes (and therefore possible treatment options), bunions vary widely in terms of severity. They can range from barely noticeable to large and painful enough to cause corns, calluses and toe deviations over time.

Graduated compression socks and hosiery come in different levels of compression, known as millimeters of mercury (expressed as mmHg) and, for diabetics, should be worn under the direction of a health practitioner. A mild level (up to 30mmHg) of graduated compression will help reduce the symptoms of swelling, tired and achy legs, spider and varicose veins and... other leg discomfort. Your Chiropodist/Foot Specialist can help determine the correct amount of compression to help reduce the swelling in your legs. See more

Neuroma is a sharp, burning pain that typically occurs at the ball of the foot between the toes when the nerve becomes inflamed. Neuroma of the area between the 3rd and 4th toe is called Mortons Neuroma. Neuroma can also cause numbness and tingling across the entire forefoot. Typically, symptoms occur after extended periods of activity. We offer sclerosing injections which is safe, minimally invasive and has a good success rate. Sclerosing injections will yield the same results as surgery without the invasiveness and recovery of the surgical option. Sclerosing kills the nerves in the area of injection. http://www.instepfootclinic.ca/

It is the time of year when young athletes are signing up for sports. Injuries in young athletes typically fall into one of three categories: growth-related injury, overuse injury, or acute presentations. The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons recommend to always have a pre-season examination by a registered foot specialist to reduce their risk of injury.

Summer is coming in full swing and that means beaches and freeing your feet from close-toed shoes flip flops! They might be an easy fit for the beaches, but they are not recommended for extensive walking because they offer no arch support or shock absorption. Choosing the wrong footwear may cause more than just foot pain such as athletes foot, corns, callouses and much more. #chiropody #flipflops #foothealth http://www.aikenstandard.com/art/20150712/AIK0107/150719869
