May you be at eternal peace @diane_bruni ! I remember you like this! And I remember being in your garden having a meal on this day. I met you in 1995... I had ...heard about you as we were both teaching at the first yoga studio in toronto and we were both shiatsu therapists. I showed up at your class and was the only one there! You had Richard freeman’s book on Ashtanga from his video. You said I’m really into this new kind of yoga...want to try it? Then you proceeded to take me through the entire primary series! I could not walk the next day! Haha.... yet I was hooked. Our history is long and deep. And although we went separate ways, I stepped into Downward Dog Yoga Centre never to be a replacement to you....How could anyone ever replace what you had given to the toronto yoga community...but to support the continuation of yours and Ron’s joint vision. You taught me so much in so many years! Some of those lessons not easy. You knew how to be a Mother to a community...your life is legendary and will never be forgotten! May you feel freedom without pain... we bow and pranam you . We light a candle and say our prayers for your journey onwards today... 4 Scary Ways Alcohol Damages the Brain 1. Shrinks brain volume People who drink just 1-7 drinks per week have smaller brains than nondrinkers, according to a 2...008 study at Johns Hopkins that appeared in Archives of Neurology. This same research found that people who have 2 or more drinks per day have even more brain shrinkage. Changes in the brain can occur early. A 2020 study in Scientific Reports found that moderate drinking was associated with lower total brain volume in early middle age (ages 39-45) in both males and females. Research on adolescents and alcohol consumption in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience showed that those who became heavy drinkers between the ages of 12-17 compared to those who did not drink alcohol started out with less brain volume and lost even more brain volume over time. When it comes to the brain, size matters! 2. Lowers blood flow to the brain The brain scans of heavy drinkers show reduced overall blood flow to the brain. The brain uses 20% of the blood flow in your body and it is critical for healthy brain function. When levels are low it can lead to a laundry list of problemsbrain fog, poor decision-making, trouble concentrating, impulsivity, and more. It’s especially important to know that low blood flow on brain scans is the #1 predictor of future memory problems and Alzheimer’s disease. SPECT Scan of heavy alcohol abuse. 3. Causes atrophy of the hippocampus Drinking 1-2 glasses of wine a day, which is considered moderate drinking, leads to atrophy in the hippocampus, according to a 30-year study of 550 women and men that was published in 2017 in BMJ. The hippocampus is a critical brain region for learning and memory. In this study, people who had 4 or more drinks per day were 6 times more likely to have atrophy in this critically important region of the brain compared with nondrinkers, and moderate drinkers had 3 times the risk. The researchers noted that they found no protective effects from light drinking.

This one is for all the ladies you practice yoga asanas and for all those who teach yoga asanas to ladies. Doing inversions during menstrual flow... to do or not to do? I am going to share what I was taught about this subject. ... There is two things to consider... 1) the physical / anatomy aspect The uterus is supported by ligaments and during menstrual flow, the uterus weighs quite a bit more and its quite a bit bigger ladies think bloating... this could stress the uterine ligaments, and if one already has issues where the uterine ligaments are compromised or has a tilted uterus, being upside down, could make whatever issues you are having worse. 2) And the energetic aspect The other thing to consider, is in Ayurveda, menstruation is considered to be Apana, meaning that energetically, vitality is downward flowing. The Ayurvedic perspective against inversions during menstruation maintains that inversions will disturb this natural energetic flow. Simply put: being upside down for longer than several steadying breaths, with gravity opposing the work of your uterus to contract and clean you out well, is that working with nature or against it? With that said, we need to keep in mind that everyone is different. Someone who has already an established practice may decide to go ahead with inversions during menstruation. Always adapt yoga to the individual and not the individual to yoga.

WHAT IF? (a venturesome question beyond physics) What if being barefoot was substantial for our wellbeing? What if shoes were jails for our heart and souls/sole...s? The numerous benefits of barefooting - ranging from better blood circulation, reflex zone massage, healing several modern foot diseases, grounding/earthing - are well known meanwhile. But there is much more to it. Being barefoot on a regular basis will not only improve our physical condition but it will literally make us better people. Why is that? Barefoot people make themselves vulnerable and thus more aware and careful for what is going on around them. They slow down. Walking barefoot through a forest is so much different to crushing everything with military boots. These newly aquatinted abilities are naturally influencing our ways of social interaction. I must say: Improving our social interaction: being sensitive, being aware, observing intensively are skills, our friends and family will appreciate a lot, no? But that’s just the surface. Imagine: Our forefathers hundreds of thousands of years ago were in steady contact with the earth. They walked barefoot and they slept on the ground. That’s how our bodies developed and simultaneously we were firmly grounded physically and mentally. Like babies being carried by their mothers on the body and thus developing a deep trust in life and becoming strong self-assured personalities. Now strong self-assured personalities are not the ones making war. They are not the ones envying, robbing and bringing mischief into our communities. Strong self-assured settled characters are exactly the ones that make our lives secure and friendly. I know that this is an assumption. It is based on personal experience. I postulate that wearing shoes has robbed us of our natural connection to life. Wearing shoes is one of the many reasons our world is in such a bad condition. Barefoot people. Gentle warriors. Don’t make war. But peace.
