Happy Hump Day #Integritymasonry fam! You’ve made it to the middle of the week Here is a look at a chimney deconstruction we performed a couple of weeks ago. Mason Tessa and labourer Leona had to tear this chimney down for a couple of reasons: 1. It was not safe anymore, as the chimney was over 3.6 meters unbraced and had a crazy lean to it. It looked like the leaning tower of Pisa ... 2. Our client was having a gas fireplace installed and power vented out of the side of her house. So, there was no longer a need for the chimney stack. When we tore down all the bricks, the chimney was capped over with metal. Come spring, roofers will tear the chimney down below the roofline and install new flat roofing to make it appear as if there was never a chimney there. Pretty cool right? Good day #integritymasonry fam In this job, our clients had water leaking into their basement. Mason Tessa and apprentice Ryan quickly discovered the problem after opening up the wall. If you follow the photos from first to last, you will see the intensive repair that was done. A hole was found in the foundation; it looks like it was meant for a beam. Tessa went into the basement to secure a piece of wood to the foundation wall. Then, she was able to fill this hole with c...ement. Once cured, the openings were covered with new damp proofing and house wrap. Bricks were re-laid and the process was repeated until the approximate 15’ span was finished. No more leaky basement and our clients were thrilled!
