April 16 is Advance Care Planning Day in Canada. Advance Care Planning is the process of thinking and talking about your wishes, values, and preferences for your future care in the event you are unable to speak for yourself. Canadians are encouraged to set aside time between 6 and 8 p.m. today to talk openly with family, friends and loved ones. Tell them what would be most important to you in a health care emergency. Tell them what brings you joy. Above all, tell them about your values and wishes, and who would speak for you. For more information about Advance Care Planning visit www.advancecareplanning.ca/acpday or watch this video: www.youtu.be/_6gFzCiMnlg.

Covid-19 has impacted access to food for Canadians, and local food banks are stepping up to fill the gap. Access to food is much more than a lack of food. It can be a result of many different factors, including employment, income, single income households, and so on. Food banks do not address these issues, but do address the immediate concern providing food to those who need it. For a list of food banks in our region and to read more: https://conta.cc/3kZQBH2

November 14 is #WorldDiabetesDay When the pandemic was first experienced in spring, many were afraid of running out of insulin, a life-saving medication for people with Type 1 Diabetes, which led to a fear that people might stockpile insulin. Thankfully, other than minor disruptions, there was an adequate supply available. This does show, however, how the pandemic has caused tremendous anxiety for many living with health concerns.... Today we pause to remember and honour the lives of the men and women who have served Canada during times of war, conflict and peace. Photo: On October 7, 1922, Lord Byng came to Stonewall, Manitoba to unveil a new war memorial. Four bronze tablets bear the names of 102 First World War veterans killed in action. It was later expanded to commemorate veterans of the Second World War and Korean War, as well as Peacekeepers. The memorial was designed by Gilbert Parfitt of Winnipeg.

If you or a loved one is experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or your 10-digit emergency number. If you don't require life-saving care, call your primary health-care provider or attend a walk-in clinic instead. All of our health-care facilities are safe places for care. In emergency departments, life-threatening and other critical cases get seen first. This means that non life-threatening cases may have to wait. We know that waiting can be frustrating - we appreciate your understanding. View our emergency room schedules here: http://www.ierha.ca/default.aspx?cid=17136&lang=1

Starting Thursday, all of Manitoba moves to Critical (Red) on the MB Pandemic Response System. It is advised that social contacts be reduced to your household only, and social gatherings will not be permitted. No changes will be made to child-care services or to kindergarten to Grade 12 education delivery at this time. For more information and full details about the restrictions visit https://bit.ly/3ln3KtW. There are a number of additional things Manitobans can do to help r...educe the spread that go beyond the restrictions: Reduce the number of shoppers from your household to the lowest possible number. Send only one person to shop. Work from home if at all possible. Reduce travel unless absolutely essential. Remember all those you have come in contact with recently. Together we can get through these difficult times. But remember that caring for your mental health is important. For support and resources visit http://www.ierha.ca/default.aspx?cid=13360&lang=1.

Did you know? When an emergency vehicle (ambulance, fire or police), sounding an alarm and flashing lights, is approaching from any direction you must yield right-of-way by: immediately moving clear of an intersection if you are stopped for a red light or stop sign (If blocking the path of an emergency vehicle, you must proceed through a red light or stop sign with caution, to clear the way.) driving as closely as possible to the right curb or edge of roadway remaining stopped at the edge of the road until the emergency vehicles have passed Note: On one-way streets, pull right or left to the nearest curb so as not to block the emergency vehicle
