The IMFC Registrations deadline is extended until May 16 - https://mailchi.mp/82a586/ima-march-2020-newsletter-4928589
As the Ontario government has extended the current restrictions until May 20, we have accordingly adjusted the timeline of the IMFC by moving forward the regist...rations deadline and the performing schedule. This year, Competitors can choose, at the time of their registration, between performing in-person or via recording. This option can be changed at a later time, up to 3 days prior to the beginning of the competition. We are committed to provide equal opportunity to all who wish to present their work either in person or via a recording. All in-person performances will take place in accordance with the public health requirements. The registration deadline has now been extended until Sunday, May 16. Competitors who choose to participate via recording need to submit a YouTube weblink by June 6. Detailed requirements are available through a web link on the IMFC Rules webpage (Section VI. Procedure, # 1). In-person performances will take place between June 7 and June 18 at the SMSV Cultural Centre in Markham located at 3300 Highway 7 East. At least 2 weeks advance notice of the exact day and time of the performances will be provided. We encourage everyone to take advantage of the extended timeline and register for the IMFC. Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 8:00 p.m. (EST) streamed live from the SMSV Cultural Centre in Markham (Canada) Music imaginatively narrates both setting and moo...d in a concert surely not to be missed. Perhaps the finest cello concerto of the twentieth century, cellist Amahl Arulanandam makes his début with the Kindred Spirits Orchestra to perform Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1: a perfect virtuosic balance of romantic passion, tradition and form. Composed at the turn of the century, Russian composer Scriabin’s Symphony No. 2 is a lush and brooding work surely to evoke the profoundest sentiment. Kristian Alexander| conductor Amahl Arulanandam | cellist Michael Berec | host On-stage discussion with Michael Berec and Amahl Arulanandam. Tickets ($15 / link): www.KSOrchestra.ca | +1 905.604.8339

Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts has one of the finest acoustics among the concert halls in the GTA. Hear how classical music can sound when perform...ed in the right environment by the Kindred Spirits Orchestra: THE MUSE AND THE POET Friday, March 20, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts (RHCPA) Described by the composer himself as a conversation between two instruments instead of a debate between two virtuosos, Saint-Saëns’ elegiac late masterpiece La Muse et le Poète is an impassioned and imaginative dialogue for solo violin, cello and orchestra. Internationally renowned Canadian pianist Maxim Bernard sheds light on Ravel’s colourful and brightly jazz-influenced Concerto for piano and orchestra in G major. Hungarian composer Béla Bartók creatively gives all instruments of the orchestra an occasion to shine in his twentieth century tour de force, Concerto for orchestra. After leaving his home country and moving to the USA (Beverly Hills), Rachmaninoff felt a big part of his inspiration as a composer was irreversibly lost. He sp...ent nearly 20 years touring, playing the piano and recording. In 1930, he bought a real estate property in Switzerland and oversaw the completion of a summer house, which he named Villa Senar after his wife Sena Rachmaninoff. This is where in 1935 he felt inspired again and wrote, over the course of a year, his last Symphony, the Third. The symphony is expressive, emotionally dense and powerful. You can hear the work performed live by the Kindred Spirits Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Kristian Alexander on this coming Saturday, February 8 at 8 pm at Flato Markham Theatre. There will be a pre-concert chat (7:10 pm), a pre-concert recital (7:20 pm), intermission discussion with internationally renowned pianist Dmitri Levkovich and a post-concert Champagne reception. For tickets visit MarkhamTheatre.ca or call 905.305.7469.
I am content that the international support of World Health Organization (WHO) and China ensured that Canada, as well as all other countries of the world, has b...een able to control the #coronavirus and keep us healthy and safe. It saddens me, though, that meanwhile thousands of people in China get infected every day. The N95 mask that can help preventing the virus from spreading further, is hardly available in China and Hong Kong. Today, the Kindred Spirits Orchestra sent 150 N95s to their friends at the Hong Kong Oratorio Society. #sendN95toChina
Live-to-air interview with internationally renowned Dmitri Levkovich pianist and composer on The New Classical 96.3 FM yesterday on February 4, 2020.
The Kindred Spirits Orchestra had a pianist cancel and a month before the performance asked me to replace with Bartok 3.Only after agreeing I realized that I ha...ve 10 days till the first rehearsal. That’s when a musician drops everything else and starts force feeding that lazy brain. To my surprise I knew the concerto by heart in a week and ended up somewhat overly prepared for the first rehearsal.I don’t know whether I’m boasting or stating a fact for the sake of contradicting people who say things like it takes a year to bring a piece to stage. Piano can be mastered to become an exciting experience and worthy of ones life endeavor. I wish more of such surprises would come up, especially in those cold winter months. Mozart Concertos would be my first choice for a quick put together, however Bartok 3 is refreshing and beautiful. For tickets, visit MarkhamTheatre.ca or call 905.305.7469. See more

Year 1888 was commemorated as "the year of the three Emperors": in Germany, 91 y.o. Wilhelm I and 56 y.o. Frederick III died in rapid succession and 29 y.o. Wil...helm II ascended to the throne. German composer Max Bruch was deeply shaken by this loss and, a few years later, wrote one of his most celebrated stand-alone pieces for violin and orchestra, "In memoriam". Nakwon Choi and the Kindred Spirits Orchestra with Maestro Kristian Alexander will present it live at Flato Markham Theatre on next Saturday, February 8 at 8 p.m. For tickets, visit MarkhamTheatre.ca or call 905.305.7469.
