Big day in Canada to see the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People brought into federal law..and putting aside today, the cynicism about anything the colonial government might do, let's consider the vision of the ancestors to keep the great peace. Clearly there is some distance to go for ensuring free and informed consent for self determining & governing First Nations.... But I predict there will be days ahead that in the interest of protecting sovereignty from ag...gressive foreign intervention in this part of Turtle Island, we will be fortunate to claim precedence of the historic & modern Peace Treaties of coexistence. Interesting to reflect back in the "before times" when we could gather in person to share stories and ideas about important common issues like watershed stewardship, governance and land use management. After listening in on a great webinar last week hosted by colleague Deb Harford at UNBC in Jan 2018, I couldn't resist sharing an event video on those themes we participated in. Hope you find it informative and relevant such as references made about the prospects and implications about building the Site C Dam. Not sure we've made much progress since then on collective sustainability planning but the grandkids tell us WE must keep up the good fight!
