Wow! It has been a long time since I posted. I have been so busy helping my clients, I have not kept up the social media aspect. I thought I would break the silence with a great tip if you are currently in or looking for an administrative role. I would highly recommend upgrading your Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel. There are a lot of courses available to you and these skills are highly transferable! Please let me know if you would like to discuss further as I would love to hear your thoughts!

An Interview is never the place to seek Career Advice. You should always have a clear idea as to what you want to achieve before applying for the job. This is where an employment coach comes in to play. If you are thinking of making a career change but do not know where to start, give me a call!

She has some great ideas on how to answer the first question most hiring managers throw at you. What are your thoughts?

Happy Labor Day!

You would be surprised how often this happens! Text is quickly becoming a lot of peoples main form of communication. What would you do if you received a resume or application by text?

Did you know that a Recruiter makes an initial decision whether or not to shortlist your Resume in only 6 seconds?! If you would be interested in having me take a look at your Resume for FREE, please comment below or send me a confidential message. How early do you arrive for an interview? Right on time? 15 Minutes? Earlier? Keep reading to find out! Your arrival time is one of the first opportunities you have to impress your Interviewer. Showing up at the right times lets your Interviewer know you you can show good judgement and respect their time. While it is never OK to arrive late, showing up too early can have similar consequences. I have had Candidates arrive 30-45 minutes early for an interview. When that happens..., I had to choose whether or not to let the Candidate wait until their scheduled time or stop what I was working on to meet with them early. I always suggest showing up 10 minutes before your scheduled Interview. This allows you to use the restroom, settle in and grab a drink (if offered) before your Interview comes to get you. It also allows for a small buffer if you get lost or if there is an unexpectedly long walk from your car to the meeting place. If you do find yourself arriving earlier than this for whatever reason, I would recommend waiting in the parking lot or taking a short walk around the area before announcing your arrival.

After 11 years in Recruitment, this still amazes me. Edmonton is not a large city. Before you decide to blow off an interview, remember this. There is a very large possibility you will cross paths with the same Recruiter or Hiring Manager more than once in your working career or even want to re-apply at the same company. I understand that life happens. Sometimes you just cannot make the interview. Perhaps you accepted another offer before the interview (message me if you want to know why this is not a good idea) or something else came up. Please show common courtesy to phone ahead to cancel or reschedule. Recruiters do keep track of this and will not forget. #endrant
