Last Wednesday we had the opportunity of touring the Enchanted Holiday Drive located in #Ottawa and what a glorious joy it was! These folks have done an absolutely wonderful,thoughout display of Christmas lights and themed displays, featuring twinkling lights galore, snow globes, and a very special holiday greeting from Mr & Mrs Clause - he even brought his list! Somehow, this weather nut isn’t on the naughty list. The absolutely amazing part of this entire advent...ure, lights aside, were the actors that greeted us along the way. Including the Grinch who greeted us with his anti-Christmas swagger. With additional characters such as Anna, Elsa and even Olaf, our family had an amazing experience greeting each actor and enjoying the spectacular performances of all those wonderful people that made this an absolute holiday must for our family and a highly recommended one for yours. This popped-up in my memories today. Not the most flattering photo .....but in December of 2017 we travelled across Eastern Ontario talking all things climate to the local agriculture community across our region. Quite a different Winter Outlook this season with a late arrival, a modest core, and a likely early end. In 2017 it in-fact lasted well into April with snow cover still pronounced across Eastern Ontario. If I recall correctly the temperatures broke midway through April towards the last week of the month. -Kevin

As expected with my concerns over communities south of the initial freezing rain warning, Environment Canada has now issued a Freezing Rain Warning within the exact communities we just mentioned we had concerns about. Please drive safe out there as icy spots are likely with ice accretion up to 2mm possible. A Freezing Rain Warning is now in-place for all three zones A, B, C. We do not have freezing rain in Smiths Falls or likely in Perth but nonetheless please use extra c...aution especially if travelling north of these locations. -Kevin See more

Expired - There is a narrow band of snow that is moving through communities near Highways 7, 416 and 417. Expect reduced visibility on these roadways and throughout the area with its passage. Although only a trace of accumulation is expected, adjust your driving accordingly. This narrow band of snow will move out of Eastern Ontario in the coming hours. -Intuitive Weather Inc.

We’ve had some reports that it appears crews aren’t applying de-icing measures within the warning zones or have yet to start their applications. Please be safe out there. Lots of icy spots will be likely without de-icing. #Ottawa -Kevin

Freezing Rain is About to Begin!! *Update: Environment Canada has now since expanded their Freezing Rain Warning to include the areas we mention below. 10:26pm -... I have concerns for communities just south of the current Freezing Rain Warning issued by Environment Canada as this area of showers moves across the region. Temperatures north of Smiths Falls through Perth and north of Kemptville remain below the freezing mark. There is a high risk for a period of freezing rain in communities just south of the warning. This freezing rain may persist for an hour or two in areas outside of the warning and north of the red line we have drawn on our map. I’ve included two maps. One with the warning that also includes my concern area outside of the warning. Locally icy conditions may occur on regional roadways near #CarletonPlace and in the areas we’ve highlighted, in zone A, within the next 45 minutes. This will impact Highway 7, Highway 511, Highway 416 and 417 including all regional roads within the warning and my extended concern area. Any untreated surfaces will become icy. This is our favourite news station in Oklahoma - the U.S. actually. We follow these wonderful people during the tornado season as their coverage is phenomenal during severe weather. Sort of our eyes on the ground as we analyze radar data. Last night, Evan Onstot, did a live broadcast on his Facebook page which showed the behind the scenes action in the studio as they did their evening broadcast. One of our favourite meteorologists Meteorologist Damon Lane, did his o...n-air at about 14:50 into the live stream. It’s pretty neat to see how they navigate through each news piece. It certainly takes a lot of talent and skill. Many folks in communities across central and western sections of the state remain without power. Almost 400,000 lost power in the hardest hit communities due to the ice storm we’ve discussed on our page. This includes many at the KOCO news station. And for many of you it brought back memories of the 1998 ice storm. Our thoughts are with the people of Oklahoma as they begin to clean up the damage and work to restore power. The sun is shinning across the state and temperatures will continue to warm over the next several days. Update: Warning has expanded. Please reference latest post discussing the expanded risk areas - As discussed in our forecast yesterday and today, freezing rain/drizzle will make an appearance along the Ottawa River. Watch for slippery roadway conditions especially on any untreated surfaces: driveways, parking lots,sidewalks etc. .... Drive carefully within these regions as freezing drizzle is highly likely including the risk for freezing rain as the rain showers move through Eastern Ontario prior to temperatures warming slightly after midnight towards 3am which will diminish the freezing rain threat. Stay safe! Environment Canada states: Freezing rain tonight and into Thursday morning. Patchy freezing drizzle will be followed by freezing rain beginning tonight. Ice accumulation may be up to 2 millimeters in some locations before the freezing rain tapers off on Thursday morning. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Hello everyone, Do you have a place you shop where familiar faces make that experience less like shopping more like saying Hello to friends? That one person you look forward to greeting as you go about your daily routine? Well, for us it’s Leta. Anytime we head out for our weekly groceries, or a quick stop for something we need, it’s always been hoping Leta would be there. She’s that person that can put a smile on your face, lift your spirits if the day isn’t going so we...ll or just be that friendly face that makes you - feel happy. She’s raised three children within our community right here in Smiths Falls and she’s always put the thought of others ahead of her own. Several days ago, Leta took a direct punch to the heart - doctors confirmed her youngest child, Davis, has cancer. We hadn’t seen our favourite person in the local shop and it’s with a saddened heart that we’ve since learned this reason why. It’s an evil and ruthless disease that the world certainly could do without. With this evil having taken my wife’s father at a much too young age - we felt compelled to share as we know all too well how frightening and exhaustive the next several months will likely be for Leta, her family, and most certainly Davis. Our hearts break for anyone throughout our communities across Eastern Ontario that have to deal with this monster. Leta - We wish you all the support and love in the world while you stand by your son Davis in his fight to beat this demon. Davis - Kick it’s ASS! Don’t get discouraged and stay strong!
