They received the Moderna vaccine against COVID-19 (see photos): - Jeannie Ilisituk is the first elder in Salluit to be ...vaccinated - First responders, Joanasie Yuliusie and Putulik Alaku - IHC senior nurses, Chantal Renaud and Marie-Jeanne Gignac Nurses responsible for the vaccination: Jessica Archambault and Marie-Philippe Groleau-Poiré COVID-19 causes serious complications and leads to deaths every day. Therefore, Nunavimmiut are encouraged to give careful consideration to the fact that the vaccine is an individual and collective solution in the fight against COVID-19. The NRBHSS and the IHC are currently doing everything to ensure that the vaccination takes place under the best conditions and in a completely safe manner. --- La vaccination a commencé à Salluit ! Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami 14.01.2021

Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami participated in a national dialogue this week with representatives from Indigenous organizations, as well as provincial and territorial governments and the Government of Canada. In his opening address, ITK President Natan Obed said that systemic discrimination against Inuit in healthcare systems can only be curbed through systemic changes in the way governments administer healthcare services, as well as through major new investments in initiatives that reduce social and economic inequities linked to poor health outcomes.

2015-2017 Annual Report on the State of Inuit Culture and Society Released (January 28, 2021 Iqaluit, Nunavut) On Bell Let’s Talk Day, Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.... (NTI) Acting President James Eetoolook today announced the release of the 2015-2017 Annual Report on the State of Inuit Culture and Society (SICS), entitled Resilience in Life, which focuses on pathways to reducing suicide in Nunavut. Some of our youth grow up believing that suicide is part of our culture. It is not. It is a symptom of colonization and on-going social and economic inequities that cause distress among too many Nunavut Inuit. Resilience in Life outlines a path forward to wellness based on Inuit-specific, evidence-based policy approaches, said Eetoolook The SICS report recommends that governments aim to create social equity among Nunavut Inuit by implementing Article 32 of the Nunavut Agreement to address persistent gaps in areas such as housing, formal education, food security, and health care. NTI encourages the Government of Nunavut and the Government of Canada take heed to recommendations in the report. The recommendations will require collaboration, resource sharing and thinking about broad approaches to our shared goal. The report has been provided to the Premier of Nunavut and the Prime Minister of Canada for the tabling of the annual report in the Nunavut Legislative Assembly and the Canadian House of Commons as required under Article 32.3.4 of the Nunavut Agreement. Past annual reports can be found by visiting NTIs website at www.tunngavik.com. Obed pointed to articles in the [UN Declaration] bill that state the action plan must address injustice and all forms of violence and discrimination against Indigenous peoples, and said his hope is that the process will empower Indigenous governments over their own affairs as partners with other governments. This is still a dream. This isn’t something that will just happen because of the legislation, Obed told the Star in early December.
