Still lots of time to get out and locate those hidden hearts!

Canada's Musical Coast 03.01.2021

As we wrap up the first ever Sounds of the Season here at Canada's Musical Coast, we would like to wish a very beautiful and meaningful holiday to those who watched, sang, and danced along with us, those who are away from home at this time, those at home who are missing their family, and those who work tirelessly in service of others, even when their efforts go unseen. Music is a gift that brings folks together from all around the world, and it has never been more evident how... important that is. Thank you as well to the musicians who shared this gift with us in order to bring some good cheer to homes near and far virtually. Check out the Sounds of The Season playlist to watch all the videos in succession, and hear the songs again and again! From the whole team at Canada's Musical Coast, happy holidays to all and a healthy and safe new year. #CanadasMusicalChristmas #CapeBretonCeltic #Unamaki #VisitCapeBreton #VisitNovaScotia See more

As a special treat in so many ways, for our final Sounds of the Season session we've been invited into the kitchen of the one and only Mary Janet MacDonlad with Tunes and Wooden Spoons. No spoilers here-but we think the music will be just as delightful as the treats! Tune in with us all at 2pm #CanadasMusicalChristmas #CapeBretonCeltic #Unamaki #VisitCapeBreton #VisitNovaScotia

These beautifully rare red-headed gems come from Mabou but they are well known across the Island and far beyond. To know them and to hear their music is to love them. We are sending a big virtual hug to sisters Dawn Beaton and Margie today, both passionate advocates of traditional Cape Breton music. May their music fill your homes with good cheer this holiday season! #CanadasMusicalChristmas #CapeBretonCeltic #Unamaki #VisitCapeBreton #VisitNovaScotia

The Whycocomagh Waterfront Centre is a community centre, a cultural venue, and a place to gather, all along the shores of Whycocomagh Bay of the Bras d'Or Lakes. While we were there, we saw some folks picnicing and even fishing. The view is breathtaking and the community spirit is strong. It really is a special spot. Enjoy Morgan Toney and Mary Beth Carty Music playing this tune! #MyMusicalCoast #VisitCapeBreton #Unamaki #VisitNovaScotia #RediscoverNovaScotia

Another beautiful song from the talented Lisa Cameron, shared with us for today's Sounds of the Season! Although Lisa didn't write this song in 2020, the lyrics will resonate with many folks who will most certainly be having a different Christmas this year. No matter where you are, we hope this brings you comfort. #CanadasMusicalChristmas #CapeBretonCeltic #Unamaki #VisitCapeBreton #VisitNovaScotia

Our next visit was much anticipated by our team because we knew how amazing the Skye River Trail looks in the Fall -- and we were not disappointed. Members of the We'koqma'q First Nations community often host interpretation, nature guiding and storytelling events along this trail, so you can learn while reconnecting with nature. Even when there are no events, this trail is the perfect place to get away from the world for a little bit and just take a deep, cleansing breath. That's exactly what we did -- with Morgan Toney and Mary Beth Carty Music accompanying us of course. Here is Morgan's own tune, Skye River. #MyMusicalCoast #VisitCapeBreton #Unamaki #VisitNovaScotia #RediscoverNovaScotia

Welcome to another edition of Music Mondays. Today we're exploring Whycocomagh and We'koqma'q -- The Great Outdoors! Our first stop was at Whycocomagh Provincial Park, nestled against Salt Mountain. Here you can hike, picnic, camp, or just ooh and aah at the beautiful surroundings like we did. The foliage is especially stunning his time of year, as you can see. Our friend and We'koqma'q local Morgan Toney played us a tune he wrote called Salt Mountain, joined by the lovely Mary Beth Carty Music. How beautiful is this?! #MyMusicalCoast #VisitCapeBreton #Unamaki #VisitNovaScotia #RediscoverNovaScotia

Welcome to Port Hood, N.S! It's called the Beach Capital of Cape Breton for good reason: there are five natural sandy beaches along the coastline for you to enjoy all year round. They have the warmest waters in North America here, and the sunsets are always dramatic. It's truly a beach lover's paradise, but there's much more; live music at the Central Park Monday Night Ceilidhs and lots of history to learn at the Chestico Museum & Archives. Have you been? What's your favourite beach? Here's Lisa Cameron and Vern MacDougall singing us a great song above Sunset Beach. #MyMusicalCoast #VisitCapeBreton #Unamaki #VisitNovaScotia #RediscoverNovaScotia

Our last stop of the day was Cabot Links where we arrived just in time for a stunning sunset typical of Inverness in the summer. With Beech Hill playing for us, it was a perfect end to the day. The Celtic Shores Coastal Trail spans 92 kilometers down Cape Breton's west coast, and starts or ends in Inverness, depending on which direction you're going! From this trailhead, you can walk to all the amenities Inverness offers, visit the Inverness Miners Museum, Inverness Beach, and the Visitor Information Centre. Plus, you get to see views like this one -- and if you're lucky, maybe you'll stumble upon some talented local musicians too! How great is this Beech Hill song? #MyMusicalCoast #VisitCapeBreton #Unamaki #VisitNovaScotia #RediscoverNovaScotia

Canada's Musical Coast 17.01.2020

Inverness is a former mining community -- you can still see evidence of that driving through the village, 'company houses' lining your way, with residents having made them their own for decades. In fact, Cabot Links golf course is built over what was once mines! But another important aspect of Inverness history and economy is of course fishing. Beech Hill gave us the coolest show from member Jesse Ryan's boat docked in Inverness Harbour. #MyMusicalCoast #VisitCapeBreton #Unamaki #VisitNovaScotia #RediscoverNovaScotia

Canada's Musical Coast 06.01.2020

Welcome to the community of Inverness, Cape Breton! You've probably heard lots about this beachy golf-lovers paradise in the past few years. We spent the afternoon with locals Beech Hill exploring the village and their favourite spots. #MyMusicalCoast #VisitCapeBreton #Unamaki #VisitNovaScotia #RediscoverNovaScotia

This spot is much beloved by Instagrammers and those looking to admire the simple beauty of a flower, hundreds of times over. Miller Farm is open daily in the Summer and Fall for fruit, vegetables and even some of these special sunflowers -- so please don't pick them if you visit. Many farms dot the landscape of the Margarees, and it's easy to find fresh, local food here, as Chrissy Crowley explains before another gorgeous tune with Colin Grant to accompany her. #MyMusicalCoast #VisitCapeBreton #Unamaki #VisitNovaScotia #RediscoverNovaScotia

Here you can see the famous Cabot Trail winding through the highlands and take a dip in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The Cape Breton Highlands National Park is open year-round, with hiking and skiing trails appropriate for beginners and well-seasoned adventurers alike, rugged beaches, and views that'll take your breath away. We visited le Centre de la Mi-Carême on our Music Monday tour to learn more about the Chéticamp tradition of la Mi-Carême, a celebration halfway through Lent when people dress up enough to be unrecognizable and go from house to house, where residents will then try to guess who they are. There's always good food, dancing and music! Nicole LeBlanc, Michelle Deveau - artiste and host Karolyn also met a new friend... what should we name him? #MyMusicalCoast #VisitCapeBreton #Unamaki #VisitNovaScotia #RediscoverNovaScotia

Canada's Musical Coast 11.06.2019

Welcome to another edition of #MusicMonday! Today we are visiting the Acadian village of Chéticamp, nestled between the ocean and the Cape Breton Highlands. It's a place known for its Acadian culture and for being a paradise for all who love the outdoors -- whether that's camping, hiking, swimming, or just hanging out by the water. Our first stop was Les Trois Pignons, the local Visitor Information Centre, genealogy centre, and hooked rug museum & gift shop. Here you can learn all about the rich history of the area, see some breathtaking art, and try your hand at traditional rug hooking. Listen to local musicians Nicole LeBlanc and Michelle Deveau - artiste sing together about their home with the song 'Hommage à Chéticamp' by André Aucoin. #MyMusicalCoast #VisitCapeBreton #Unamaki #VisitNovaScotia #RediscoverNovaScotia

Happy Musical Monday! Every Monday, Canada's Musical Coast will be sharing videos featuring talented local musicians in some beloved spots around the County. First up, we're visiting the village of Mabou, Nova Scotia. Home of the Rankin Family and countless other artists, Mabou is a small village on the Northumberland Strait known for its connection to Gaelic culture, music and heritage. In fact, it's "Where Culture Lives, Far am beo Dualchas"! What are some of your favouri...te spots in Mabou? Here we visit the Mabou Coal Mines, some of the best views in town can be found near the old mines by hiking the Cape Mabou Trail Club. This trail system is maintained by volunteers and is a favourite of amateur and more experienced hikers alike. Let's meet with Nora, Orianna and Floragael MacNeil of NicNeil as they share with us some tunes off their album Back Current Jam. #MyMusicalCoast #VisitCapeBreton #Unamaki #VisitNovaScotia #RediscoverNovaScotia
