They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted; They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond England's foam. But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night; As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain; As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain.

On this day 76 years ago, tens of thousands of brave men stepped out of landing craft into the surf on the beaches of Normandy, to be met by a hail of bullets and explosions. Today, one can only imagine the courage needed to take that first step, knowing that it could be their last. Many did not make it to the shore, and of those who did, many more did not get off the beach. Their strength and determination carried them through that dreadful day.... We will never forget their courage, their sacrifice, and what they did for us. They will forever be remembered as the Greatest Generation.

Happy Paramedic Services Week 2020, to all our fellow Paramedics, EMTs and other EMS colleagues in Canada and around the world. The theme this year here in New Brunswick is "Pandemic: Paramedics on the Front Line", but as hospital staff are generally considered to be on the front line of this pandemic, it means that you all work "behind enemy lines", out in the field. So stay safe and have a good week.
