Shooting a couple articles for Vancouver Foundation Magazine: HOGAN’S ALLEY SOCIETY (HAS) The Heart of Black Vancouver Lama Mugabo (right) and Siobhan Barker at Nora Hendrix Place. As societies grapple with the work of dismantling racist systems, new paths for healing are being formed through grassroots organizations that serve Black communities. HAS is one of several Black-led organizations harnessing the most recent wave of support for racial justice. Based in the historica...lly Black neighbourhood of HAS advocates for Black Vancouverites who have endured the legacies of urban renewal and their erasure from the official historical narrative. Currently, HAS serves its community at Nora Hendrix Place located in Vancouver’s Chinatown. Some of you might remember Jimi Hendrix Aunt Nora. Today we remember those who have served, who have fallen, and who had given up their youth so that we can live in a safe democracy without fear or prejudice. Today I will especially remember a dear friend who gave up his youth in defence of our freedom and democracy, who helped pave the way for all Chinese Canadians. Master warrant officer (Retd) George Chow: I met George in 2009 during a Chinese Canadian Military Museum Society dinner where we quickly became friends. Georg...e who was in his late 80’s was more youthful and energetic than some millennials I knew. I believe it’s because he had to prematurely grow up during one of the most stressful times in the history of the world. George loved recounting stories of his time as a teen growing up in Victoria’s Chinatown, his time as a soldier and after the war. He had an unrivalled memory for details, a great sense of humour and always a compliment for the ladies. My wife and I visited George for his birthday on November 5th, sadly he passed away the next evening. He was truly a fighter who held on until his 99th birthday. Although we were heartbroken when he passed, we knew that he was now with his comrades, those who never made it back onto Canadian soil and those who did return but inevitably left us as the years passed. George, it’s been our pleasure to have known you, and it seems as if we’ve known you for decades. We know that you have unfinished business here, but now it’s time to muster out and take that well deserved furlough. Thank you for treating us like a part of your family. Rest well my friend. https://www.cbc.ca//a-trailblazer-decorated-b-c-war-hero-g

It's the most wonderful time of the year! This truly is my favourite time when we receive our freshly picked blueberries from Doreen every year. Special thanks to Keith for always taking the time to deliver them right after they are picked. Would some one come up with a clever name for my little blueberry guy? Thanks!

Sometimes an image comes to you. I covered a lot of ground last year trying to photograph mainly people. This guy saw me capturing images and asked if I would take a photo of him. He was stuck in traffic and not going anywhere, so I ran into the street and pulled off a few images at 10th Ave. & 37th. Masud doesn’t speak much English but took directions very well. In a few seconds it was done. 2 months later he got his image. Hey, you can’t rush these things you know!
