The pandemic has created a major change in how we view our homes, and our experiences living in them for many more hours of the day. Rooms need to have multiple functions and sufficient storage to maximize the use of our spaces. Home offices, home gyms and spaces to retreat are becoming much more important during this time. Well, it looks like 2021 is on course to be just as crazy as 2020. Navigating how to run a business with kids learning from home is a challenge I'm not particularly fond of, but here we are. But one thing I am thankful for is a new home office space to work in. It's been an ongoing project throughout 2020, and is 90% complete, with just some finishing details left. With heated floors, large windows, and lots of working and storage space, this basement area has turned out to be a cozy and enjoyable place to work.

It's a new year, and we're gearing up for it to be a busy one! We have some new exciting projects beginning, as well as others that are continuing on from last year; a good mix of both indoor and outdoor spaces. In the backend, we are continuing to develop the business and always improving our design process and client experience. And I am excited to be starting off the year as Invision Design Solutions Incorporated! We have lots on the go and are excited to share along the way!

Wishing everyone a happy holiday season, whatever that looks like in your home this year! I always look forward to this time to rest, enjoy family time, and recharge for the new year. This year has been particularly exhausting in many ways, and I need this time more than ever. In both business and family life, I've both struggled with unprecedented challenges and celebrated goals surpassed. 2020, you have been a wild ride for sure. Here's to new beginnings and better days to come in 2021!

This existing fireplace got a refresh with a new mosaic tile surround, and new cabinet doors on the previously open shelves on either side. We love working with existing features in a space when they are functional and can be adapted to work with a new design. Not everything needs to be ripped out and thrown away. Couldn't ask for a better partner to go adventuring with! She's always up for exploring, and doesn't hesitate to try something new. Do you have a small kitchen and crowded dining room? In this project, we combined these two small spaces to make one large one that serves both functions! This kitchen is now bright and inviting, super functional with tons of storage. And the large island serves as dining space for a family of 5. A little dose of green does a lot of good for the soul. After a busy week of work with lots of indoor time in my office, a walk in the woods is just what I needed this weekend. Did you know that humans have an innate connection with nature, and that our mental and physical health is impacted by our time spent in nature? With the average north american spending up to 90% of our time indoors, its so important for our mental & physical wellbeing to incorporate nature into our interior spaces. This can be done by incoporating things like plants, water features, and natural light into our spaces. But your mind will also be positively impacted through colours, materials and patterns that mimic nature, like hardwood flooring, botanical patterns, and nature inspired colour schemes.

This busy family of 5 moved into a fantastic neighborhood, closer to all of the kids extracurricular activities, but their new home did not flow with their lifestyle. Small closed off rooms, and a serious lack of storage did not lend itself to daily routines or entertaining. By opening up the walls on the main floor, reconfiguring bathrooms & closets, and adding a back mudroom entrance, this house has become a much more functional home. The kitchen and dining room have been combined to create a large open kitchen with dining at the island. And the exterior got a major facelift, including new front porch, covered back deck and all new finishes. Not to mention the multi-functional detached garage with loft in the back. This truly has become a brand new home.

I'm really hoping that my little office friend will be able to survive my new basement office space. I've managed to miraculously keep this jade plant alive for over a year!! Though I do have a fairly large basement window in my new office, it's nothing compared to all the natural light that flooded my previous second storey office. I'm not sure if it will be enough light for this little guy, but I'm going to give it a shot. Having a connectuon to nature in your indoor ...spaces is important to your mental and physical health and well-being. Plants and natural light are one way to achieve this connection, but there are other ways to... using natural materials, colours and patterns inspired by nature, nature-inspired artwork, and artificial lighting that imitates natural light and works with your natural circadian rhythms. I'll definitely be looking for ways to bring some nature into my new office space. See more

Celebrating 17 years with this guy @jaynickel. As high school sweethearts, we've done a lot of growing up together over the years. There have been ups and downs, adventures and challenges, but I'm so blessed to do life with my best friend. After only a couple years in my finished home office space, I'm having to say goodbye to this bright and cheery accent wall. This was one of my own DIY projects - I designed this pattern, taped it off and painted it. And I was so happy with the result! The cheerful yellow was perfect on dreary winter days, and has created a space I loved to be in! The psychology of colour has a significant impact on our emotional and mental well-being, and is an important tool to creating... a happy and healthy space. This is one of the factors we consider in our holistic design approach for all of our clients' projects. . In my own home, we are currently shuffling some spaces, and I find myself in the process of relocating my office to another room.
