To our honoured members, It is with heartfelt sadness that we recognize the passing of our beloved colleague, Joan Gilchrist. Many current members have not had the privilege of meeting Joan, however, the stories shared by those who knew Joan will echo across our chapter now and for always. Joan was described as an amazing leader and mentor to so many people in the nursing and academic communities. Joan’s accomplishments are numerous, but one we are most grateful for is her co...ntribution in forming our Iota Omicron Chapter starting in 1985. Joan welcomed the opportunity to recognize excellence in nursing practice, scholarship, and research at the Western University campus. Joan was a respected by both colleagues and students who will be forever grateful for the support she provided to Western students and for caring for the faculty so deeply. As the Iota Omicron chapter, we have recognized Joan’s amazing devotion to our chapter through the Joan Gilchrist Graduate Student Research Award that we will continue to offer our members moving forward. As an executive we have decided to further honour Joan by making a donation to Sigma’s Foundation for Nursing Research in Joan’s name where the donation will go towards supporting nursing research, leadership, and Sigma's global future moving forward. If you would like to make a similar donation to the Foundation for Nursing Research, please follow the link provided (https://foundation.sigmanursing.org/Donate). At the bottom the screen there is a check box that will allow you to make the donation in someone’s name if you wish. Please know how much Joan is loved and how deeply your loss is felt by all. We are wishing everyone hope in the midst of sorrow, and comfort in the midst of pain. Joan and her family are in our thoughts at this sad time. Thinking of you now and always, Adam Morse, President of the Iota Omicron Chapter

IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM THE PRESIDENT & IOC EXECUTIVE: March 17, 2020 As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to evolve by the hour, the Sigma Theta Tau - Iota Omicron Chapter Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Spring Dinner scheduled for April 2nd, 2020 at the Windermere Manor in London, Ontario will be postponed until further notice.... With Western University leaders and our community partners, we have been communicating about our plans to host the AGM on April 2nd. Given the evolving situation with COVID-19, and more recently the change to public health and safety procedures put in place by the Prime Minister and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), we, as an executive representing the general membership of the Iota Omicron Chapter, unanimously decided to postpone the Spring AGM until further notice. The 2020 AGM/Spring Dinner award applications and nominations that have been submitted and received prior to the advertised deadline will continue to be reviewed and considered. More information regarding the awards will be made available in the coming weeks. As an executive board, our first priority is the health and safety of our general membership, their families and patients. We also take pride in supporting our practice partners, especially during challenging times such as these. Both London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care are enacting policies to better allocate resources to assist the London and surrounding area, including limiting staff from attending professional, research, organization, and social gatherings. In addition, statements from the PHAC discourage gatherings of over 50 people for the next couple of months due to the increased transmission risk of the virus. As a chapter, we want to support our local partners, our affiliated schools (Western University & Fanshawe College) as well as our local community. We have chosen to stop all events moving forward that require members to gather in-person until the COVID-19 situation has been reassessed and our practice partners and public health agencies feel the risk has diminished. We will communicate any and all details regarding further changes as soon as possible to allow time for participants to adjust their schedules. Individuals who have purchased event tickets will receive an online refund in their original payment method over the coming days. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to determine the best course of action for our Annual General Meeting and Spring Dinner. In nursing confidence, Adam Morse President & IOC Executive
