There was a little coffee shop, where two people arrive and approach the counter. "Five coffees please. Two for us and three hanging. They paid, they took... their two coffees and left. I asked the waiter. "Whats this about hanging coffees?" "Wait and you'll see." Some more people came in. Two girls asked for a coffee each, they paid & left. The following order was for seven coffees and it was made by three women - three for them and four hanging coffees. I was left wondering...what is the meaning of the hanging coffees, they leave. Suddenly, a man dressed in worn clothes, who looks like he might be homeless, arrives at the counter and asks sincerely. " Do you have a coffee hanging?" Yes we do sir They serve him a coffee.... I got my answer on these famous " HANGING COFFEES" People pay in advance for a coffee that will be served to whoever can't afford a hot drink. This tradition started in Naples. Amazingly its spread throughout the worlds cities and towns. Its also possible to order not only "hanging coffees" but also a sandwich or a full low cost meal. Make sure to publish this beautiful idea to everyone. Share it if you want to help promote the idea too. Wouldnt it be great if we could all start doing this in the cities, towns and villages where we live. Let me know if your local coffee shop does this. When Will was interviewing John Adams for our upcoming History of Odd Fellows social night the woman at the Shaw studio said, "He is one of two of my favourite 'Johns' ! " Her husband is a John as well. I must stay I can't disagree! <3 Thank you for representing Odd Fellows so well Mr. Adams! <3

One of the wonderful things about Odd Fellows especially if you are fortunate enough to have a beautiful facility and 3 lodges that meet in it is that you have a choice of activities and can host some in your own lodge and also enjoy those that the other brothers and sisters create. When I read this I thought about my choir in high school. We were taught this as well. In this context I think of one lodge creating activities that we can all enjoy and then taking a break or a "breather" while someone else picks up the hosting duties. It works brilliantly and each person adds their own style and flair to the service that we do in the community.
