Task 2 Sample Essay - The Imposition of a Curfew Task In some areas of the US, a curfew is imposed, in which teenagers are not allowed to be out of doors after a particular time at night unless they are accompanied by an adult. What is your opinion of this?... Complete Essay In some cities and towns in the US, when a curfew is imposed, teenagers are only permitted to go outside of their home after a specific time during the night and only if they are accompanied by an adult. I somewhat agree with this point of view since there could be strong arguments for a curfew to be imposed under special circumstances, but if the curfew is never removed and always remains in place, then I would certainly strongly disagree with such an implementation. This first reason for the creation of a curfew might be that it is too dangerous for teenagers to be out so late. This is to say that curfew might have been imposed only when the situation might be deemed as dangerous to their well being or their actions at this hour could be seen as inappropriate. An unintentional action by a teenager at night could be mistaken as a serious violent threat by the authorities. This can lead to adverse consequences such an arrest, physical injury, or worse, perhaps death. For example, a study conducted has suggested that teenagers often get misbehave in public only when they are not accompanied by someone from their family. Another reason is that they might not be wise enough to handle being out late at night without supervision. This is because they are young and aggressive in nature and can be easily influenced by peer pressure. If the curfew is set and then just remains in place for no apparent reason, I think that this is not right and seriously infringes on the rights a teenager has. If a teenager is subject to a curfew because of the actions of only a few bad apples, then those bad apples should be dealt with and not every young person should have to pay the penalty for these bad deeds. A curfew could go into effect and then be lifted but essentially, I disagree with a curfew that is created in an attempt to control the actions of teenagers. Parents should be held responsible not a curfew. A curfew should only be issued in an emergency situation, like a flood or some kind of other natural disasters, and it should not only restrict teenagers. It should be issued to everyone for their own safety. The point of a curfew should be the safety of people not to control the bad actions of young people. In conclusion, teenagers should not be controlled by the issuance of a curfew. Curfews should be imposed to protect the public, not control what teenagers do at night.

Academic Task 1 - British Students and Language Ability Table Sample Task The tables below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010.... Complete Report The two pie charts show the percentages of university-level students, in the UK, who were able to communicate in English and other languages, over a span of 10 years, from 2000 to 2010. The trend suggests that in these two specific years most British students spoke English and only one other language. In 2000, the highest category was reported for Spanish only spoken, at 30%. This is exactly 20% higher than the lowest category which was two other languages spoken, at only 10%. All the remaining four languages that were included in this pie chart were reported at between 10 and 20 percent. In 2010, the Spanish only category had risen by 5%, which is exactly the same amount of rise seen in the two other languages category. The most significant change over these two years can be seen in the no other language spoken category which had decreased by 10%. The figures for German only remained the same, while French only dropped by 5%, and another language rose by 5%. Overall, in 2000 and 2010, most British students used English and only spoke one other language when they spoke.

General Training Task 1 Sample Formal Letter About Cancelling an Appointment Task You have to cancel an appointment with your bank branch manager. Please send him or her a letter and explain... what the time and purpose of the appointment was why you are unable to come to this appointment suggest an alternative time for the appointment Complete Letter Dear Sir or Madam, The reason I am writing to you concerns the appointment that we arranged last week next Monday, the 24th of January. Unfortunately, I will have to cancel this appointment. The date of this meeting was supposed to be next Monday, at one o’clock in the afternoon. I had wanted to discuss the possibilities of obtaining a business loan, as I intend to expand my contracting business. As I have mentioned, it will not be possible for me to make the prearranged appointment, as I now have a serious conflict of interest at this exact time. Perhaps we can reschedule this appointment for later the same day. I would be able to come at 5 pm, instead of 1 pm, if possible, on your end. I am aware that this may be difficult for you to accommodate, and I totally understand if it is not possible for you. Please contact me via email, or on my cell phone, to secure a new appointment time at your convenience. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Yours faithfully, Walter Tazinski

Task 2 Sample Essay - Human Cloning Task As people live longer and longer, the idea of cloning human beings in order to provide spare parts is becoming a reality. The idea horrifies most people, yet it is no longer mere science fiction. To what extent do you agree with such a procedure? Have you any reservations? ... Complete Essay Cloning has been occurring for a number of years now, mostly with animals, and this cloning research has now opened up the possibility of cloning humans, too. Although there are clear benefits of cloning to provide spare body parts, I feel it raises too many ethical issues that could become potentially problematic in the future for all people. Innovations in medical science and improved dieting have allowed people to live much longer than in the past. This fact, however, has created problems as people age when their organs begin to fail, and therefore they need replacing. If human beings were cloned, essentially these organs could be used to replace those in the people who need them. Currently, in the medical profession, there is a shortage of organ donors, allowing for a need to be filled by cloned human parts, which in part would overcome the issue, as there would then be a ready supply. However, for several reasons, many people feel that cloning is wrong. First of all, there are religious arguments that disagree with this process. Cloning involves creating another human, leading to its ultimate death in order to use its organs. In religious terms, this could be argued as murder. More importantly, to me, the debate around how cloned human organs will be used, and the rights of the cloned themselves, will become a real issue. Surely, I would suggest that they would be considered humans, just like the rest of the real human population, and if they were not, who would decide and control this? To conclude, I feel that human cloning creates too many negative ethical problems and must be avoided at all costs.

Academic Task 1 Report - Dangerous Waste Products Pie Chart Sample Task The pie charts below show how dangerous waste products are dealt with in three countries.... Complete Report The pie charts compare five different methods for the disposal of dangerous waste products in Sweden, South Korea, and the UK. It is clear that the main method used among these three countries to get rid of hazardous waste is by burying it. It can also be seen that the ways of dealing with these dangerous amounts of waste in Sweden are exactly the same as in South Korea. In the United Kingdom, 88% of dangerous materials are buried underground, while this figure for Sweden and Korea are much less at 55% and 22%, respectively. Sweden burns about a fifth of its risky material, and this method is only 9% in Korea, and even less in the United Kingdom, at just 2%. Korea recycles about 70% of its dangerous materials and this method is used for the treatment of about a fourth of these substances in Sweden. In contrast, Great Britain does not practice any recycling for its hazardous materials at all. Instead, chemical treatment and dumping at the sea are two additional methods that are practiced only in England, with a percentage of 8 for each. Overall, the main method of hazardous waste disposal for all three countries is a burial.

Task 2 Sample Essay - Health Task Currently, there is a trend towards the use of alternative forms of medicine. However, at best these methods are ineffective, and at worst they may be dangerous. To what extent do you agree with this statement?... Complete Essay Alternative medicine is not a new style of treatment, as it has now become commonly accepted, and in fact, is used by many people all over the world. I firmly believe that these kinds of alternative treatments are not dangerous, and I feel that both alternative and conventional medicine are highly effective and very useful for many medical diagnoses. There are several reasons why the conventional medical community is often indifferent to medical alternatives. One reason is due to the fact that there has been very little serious scientific research into these methods. This leads to a lot of reluctance to believe its usefulness within the scientific medical profession. Furthermore, people often try such treatment when friends suggest them, thereby leading medical professionals to conclude that this process is somehow flawed. To me, alternative therapies usually only see useful results for long-term, non-acute conditions when traditional treatment coexists with several alternative ones. Severe medical problems, such as chronic disease, often require less alternative and more conventional use. On the other hand, there remain strong arguments for the use of alternative medicine. Even though there is not a lot of scientific proof, there is a lot of unscientific evidence to suggest that these therapies do work. Moreover, in many cases, these natural remedies are far from dangerous, as they often have few or no side effects at all. I think one of the best arguments for the effectiveness of alternative medicine is that people are reporting vast improvements in the overall health of themselves when suffering from severe and non-severe medical conditions. I strongly believe that conventional medicine and alternative therapies can and should coexist. The best solution would be to use alternative therapies to support and complement conventional medicine. They have different strengths and can both be used effectively to target any medical problem.

Academic Task 1 Report - Owned and Rented Housing in the UK Pie Chart Sample Task The pie charts below show the percentage of housing owned and rented in the UK in 1991 and 2007. ... Complete Report The pie charts compare housing that was owned and rented for two years only in 1991 and 2007 in terms of percentage. The trend suggests that the majority of homes in the UK were owned and that in the rental sector most homes were categorized in the social renting market. In 1991, home ownership was the most popular type of housing, accounting for 60%, or more than half of all homes. The next largest sector was social rented homes, amounting to 23% or nearly one-third of homes. The remaining homes were mostly privately rented at 11% with a tiny fraction being social housing at 6%. Sixteen years later, in 2007, the number of homeowners had risen to 70% or almost three-quarters of all homes. This was an increase of 10% compared with 1991. Much of the increase in home ownership can be explained by the decrease in social rented homes, which had dropped from 23% to 17%. The percentage of privately rented homes had remained unchanged at 11%. However, there were five million more homes in 2007 compared with 1991 so the number of rented homes had increased despite the same percentage. Social housing has decreased three-fold from 6% in 1991 to 2% in 2007, and it remains the least popular type of housing. Overall, most homes for these two years were owned by their occupants.

Task 2 Sample Essay - How to Encourage Children Task Some people say that parents should encourage their children to take part in organized group activities in their free time. Others say that it is important for children to learn how to occupy themselves on their own. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.... Complete Essay Some people think that children should spend their free time playing team sports or as a part of other group activities. Other parents disagree with this view. According to them, children should find a way to keep themselves engaged on their own. I think there are good reasons to engage children in group activities and individual ones. These days parents quite often want their kids to socialize more, and in their free time, parents will have them join group activities such as sports teams or special interest clubs. These kinds of activities can help children learn important skills like cooperation, teamwork and social interaction. Group activities can also prepare kids for their future lives because when children participate in group activities they will learn how to work with others and their skill sets will improve. For example, children who play sports learn to work well with other children and they develop their skills of anticipation and they learn to support their teammates. These kinds of skills will help any child to learn how to work well with others, and at the same time, it will help them develop their confidence and encourage them to strive for more. There are also parents who prefer to leave the children on their own, allowing them to do whatever they want. There are several reasons why this approach is positive for children too. It will allow a child to find things on their own without having to rely on the group mentality. They will learn to do what is best for them on their own and not what others think they should do, or not do. Essentially, children will learn to work independently, and this skill will be beneficial to any child when they must make decisions on their own. However, if children are left alone, they can become aloof and this should be avoided. Such children can become anti-social, so parents need to be aware of children who spend too much time alone. Basically, a balance between group work and alone work is best for a child while they are growing up. To conclude, in my opinion, parents should get their children involved in group activities which keep them busy and give them equal opportunities to learn on their own, as well.

General Training Task 1 Sample Formal Letter of Complaint About Sharing a Room Task You live in a room in college which you share with another student. You find it very difficult to work there because he or she always has friends visiting. They have parties in the room and sometimes borrow your things without asking you. Write a letter to the Accommodation Officer at the college. In your letter... ask for a new room state you would prefer a single room explain your reasons Complete Letter Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing this letter to express my dissatisfaction with my roommate. As you are well aware, I share one room with another student, and due to her constant noise and numerous visitors, I am finding it very difficult to study and to find any peace and quiet. My roommate always has friends visiting, and in fact, our room has become quite the party place on campus. The partiers make a lot of noise while socializing and playing their music very loudly. This type of environment is not conducive to studying, and I need to move to a much quieter room. I am putting in a formal request that you move me immediately to another room that does not have so many distractions. I assure you that I have asked her to stop all the partying to no avail. She simply ignores any request for quiet that I make. I simply cannot stay in the same room with her since we now resent each other very much and any further discussion on this matter only ends in an argument. I would be grateful if you could change me to a single room. I hope this situation can be resolved immediately. Yours faithfully, Jessica Jepson

Task 2 Sample Essay - Having Too Many Choices Task Some people believe that nowadays we have too many choices. To what extent do you agree or disagree?... Compete Essay It is quite often said that people have too many choices on offer nowadays and that people simply have too many options available to them concerning every little whim or necessity. I would agree that people can choose from a long list to make any selection, from everyday necessities to the luxurious ones, sometimes to the point of a total overload. There are two main areas of modern life where people are faced with a range of options that can become bewildering, rather than helpful when considering consumer purchasing. With the aim to meet our demands, manufacturers provide us with excessive selections of products. As a result, people often spend considerable time choosing between similar products, when in fact they might be reasonably happy with any of them. For example, people will often spend a whole afternoon shopping only for a pair of shoes, feeling exhausted rather than satisfied when it is done. Sometimes too many choices can cause a person stress instead of feeling optimist about the variety of choices. I always relish in the fact that nowadays people have so much choice allowing me to choose something unique and to my taste instead of simply settling for the only one that is available. Having said this, information and product overload can lead to a pattern of stress when there is just too much to choose from. In the modern age, there can be too much on offer being so readily available leaving people to wonder what should be chosen. When there are so many options to choose from sometimes people have a hard time making a choice and, in some cases, regretting that choice after it has been made. I am not such a person. I will try to choose carefully or just go with my gut feeling. I do not want to spend so much time making a choice. I will make it then move and not question it later. Whether it is a small choice or a big one I do not want to stress over deciding. I want to make it and then be done with it. In conclusion, I believe that having options is better than settling for something that may not be liked.

Academic Task 1 Report - UK Telephone Calls Bar Chart Sample Task The bar chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billions) of telephone calls in the UK, divided into three categories, from 1995-2002.... Complete Report The bar chart compares the figures in terms of minutes spent on telephone calls, splitting them into three different groups, over a period of 7 years in the United Kingdom, with the minutes being measured in billions. The trend suggests that the local calls were by far the most popular way of making a telephone call, while mobiles were the least one. It is also noticeable that the two call types, national and international, and mobiles saw an upward trend during the period shown, while local calls, by contrast, experienced a gradual decline at the end of the period. In 1995, the figures for minutes of telephone calls using a local line stood were at 70 billion. For national and international calls, it was at around 35 billion, and for all mobiles calls it was only 5 billion. This discrepancy among preferences can be observed until 1999 when the number of calls through local lines reached a peak of 90 billion. The figures for the total number of minutes using national and international lines and mobile lines were approximately 45 billion and 10 billion. Starting in 1999, there was a steady decrease in the number of minutes made used on local lines compared to a significant rise in the number of those using cell phones. The number of minutes being used for national and international lines increased gradually during the same period shown. In 2002, the number of minutes for local calls was equal to those in 1995, while international and national lines and mobile calls saw the highest number of minutes, at just over 60 billion, and under 50 billion. Overall, the chart shows how three different kinds of calls were made over a seven-year period in the UK.

Task 2 Sample Essay - Global Warming Task Global warming is one of the most serious issues that the world is facing today. What are the causes of global warming and what measures can governments and individuals take to tackle the issue?... Complete Essay Many people would argue that the most worrying threat to our planet today is global warming. There are several reasons why global warming is occurring and the possible solutions that can put an end to this global problem must be explored. The predominant factors resulting in the warming of the earth are carbon monoxide emissions and worldwide deforestation. CO2, which damages the ozone layer, comes from several sources, and the most problematic are those that result from the burning of fossil fuels for power generation. This process emits millions of tons of CO2 into the world’s atmosphere every year. Another cause of these emissions is the burning of fuel used in transportation, which continues to increase because of people’s demand for vehicles and increasing worldwide consumption, which results in the growing need to transport goods globally. Also, with the loss of large areas of forests, deforestation is causing larger amounts of CO2 to remain in the atmosphere. Nevertheless, there are potential ways to solve these problems, or at least reduce its effects. Governments need to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and promote alternatives. Plant-derived plastics, biodiesel, wind power and solar power are all steps in the right direction to end this dependency. Governments also need to enforce the limits concerning CO2 emissions that are produced by polluting industries in order for the solutions to be effective. Also, individuals can play a part by making simple lifestyle changes. For example, people should try to buy cars with the best fuel economy, and only use a car when it is necessary. People can also make smarter choices by switching to renewable energy resource companies rather than fossil fuel-based ones. There are other ways to help too, like buying energy-efficient light bulbs, turning the electricity off when it is not being used, or planting trees in one’s garden. To conclude, even though global warming is a serious issue, there are steps that governments and individuals can take to reduce their effects. If humans are going to plan to save this planet, it is important to prioritize the issue of global warming, to end it.

General Training Task 1 Sample Informal Letter to a Stranger to Express Your Thanks Task After being involved in an accident, you were looked after by another person. In your letter... express your thanks explain the accident and say what the doctor’s diagnosis is Complete Letter Dear John, I’m writing to express my heartfelt gratitude. I’m referring to that unfortunate accident the other day when I was knocked off my bike by a taxi. If it’d not been for your timely assistance in giving me first aid and taking me to a nearby hospital, I fear that the consequences might’ve been much more serious. The doctor says that my broken leg’s healing well, and the bruises and cuts I suffered will soon be completely better. In addition, the taxi company has agreed to pay my hospital bills. Everyone agrees that it was your quick-witted response in that emergency that led to this satisfactory outcome. Although nowadays, many people talk about the need to be unselfish and to help others, we see very few people practicing what they preach. But you showed by your selfless action that you’re an exception. If there were more people like you, this world would be a much nicer place. Thank you, Ted

Task 2 Sample Essay - Having a Car Task Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a car.... Complete Essay Nowadays, as roadways become more and more crowded and traffic-related problems increase, people are considering both the advantages and disadvantages of having a car more than ever before. The days of increased freedom associated with automobile ownership are changing. The main advantage of a car is that it gives a person the freedom to travel when and where you want, without being limited to fixed routes and timetables. A driver can carry several passengers and as much luggage without any extra cost. In addition to this, a person can travel in comfort in a passenger vehicle, with a seat to themselves and the possibility of comforts such as music and air conditioning. These advantages became the reason for the rise in car ownership over the past few decades, but this trend is gradually changing as the demographics of drivers continues to evolve into a less car-dependent society. One of the main reasons for not wanting to own a car nowadays is the high cost of buying one. As well as the price of a car, the owner must pay the car tax, insurance, gas, and maintenance that are all associated with car ownership. Also, an increase in traffic can mean that drivers are spending more and more time being stuck in traffic jams. One solution to the amount of time that is wasted by sitting in traffic is to get rid of one’s car and use public transportation. Another disadvantage of car usage is a large amount of carbon dioxide that they release into the atmosphere. Environmentally conscious people are now choosing not to drive a vehicle because of this exact reason, using alternatives to get around, instead. To conclude, the advantages of owning a car are changing, while the disadvantages of owning one are ever-increasing.

Academic Task 1 - Modes of Travel Information Table Sample Task The table below gives information about changes in modes of travel in England between 1985 and 2000.... Complete Report The table shows information concerning British people for two specific years, 1985 and 2000. The trend suggests that car use was the most common way to travel by British people, for both the years that are shown. In 1985, almost 3,200 miles, out of total 4,740 miles, were travelled by car which had increased to just about 4,800 miles, out of total 6,475 miles, 15 years later. The second most common way of travel for the two years shown was by local bus if the other category were overlooked. Bus travel was reported at a significantly lower number of miles travelled, at only 429 miles in 1985, and even lower, at the staggeringly low amount of 274 miles travelled in 2000. Taxi was the least preferred way of travelling for both of these two years, amounting to only 13 miles per person, in 1985, and just 42 miles per person, in 2000. Bicycles were used for an average of 50 miles in 1985, and this amount had decreased by 10 miles to a mere 41 miles 15 years later. Train and on foot were two other modes of travel that were infrequently used by the British people, with only 239 miles reported for train use in 1985, and only 255 miles for walking. By 2000, the number of miles used on a train had only increased by 127 miles, from 239 miles to 366 miles. To conclude, travel by car was shown to be the most common mode of transport in England for the years that are shown.

General Training Task 1 Sample Formal Letter of Complaint to a Tourist Centre Task You have visited another city in your country. Prior to the visit, you requested some information from a tourist centre, but the information was incorrect. Write a letter to the manager of the centre and... describe what information were you looking for explain what was incorrect in it tell what happened to you because of it Complete Letter Dear Sir or Madam, My family and I recently took a trip to Kelowna, BC and prior to our visited we had requested some information from your centre about the cost of visiting a winery while we planned to be there. Unfortunately, the information we received from your centre was totally incorrect. The prices that you had stated for an overnight stay in your brochure were incorrect, and so were the prices of their selection of wines. We asked for some up-to-date information about the cost of a tour to several different vineyards and the cost of purchasing a selection of their wines. And, in fact, what we told was very out-of-date information. As a result of this, we had planned to spend a certain amount that was calculated based on your pricing guide. And when we in fact arrived at the certain winery that we had chosen to tour and to buy wine from, all of our predetermined calculations were wrong. We simply did not have enough money with us to buy what we intend to. This was a direct result of the incorrect information we received from your centre. We intend to make a complaint to the regional tourist authority, and we suggest that you update your information to make sure it is correct. Thankfully yours, David Arnold

Task 2 Sample Essay - Globalization Task As mass communication and transport continue to grow, societies are becoming more and more alike leading to a phenomenon known as globalization. Some people fear that globalization will inevitably lead to a total loss of cultural identity. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?... Complete Essay Globalization has become integrated into the global network of trade, transportation, communication, and immigration. It is feared by many to eventually bring an end to collectively-based cultural identity. However, I am convinced that not only will globalization help retain and improve local cultures, but it will also strengthen cultural bonds between distant communities. People can realize how they are different from others in distant lands, which may lead to their interest in learning about other cultures. This means every culture will have to preserve and present its unique features such as local cuisine or craftsmanship in order to maintain foreign interest in itself and have something to offer in competition with other communities. As a result, a sense of cultural identity can be reinforced and even rekindled and restored where it has already been lost. I also feel that globalization cannot be slowed, or prevented, so trying to preserve cultural individuality is the only realistic option nowadays. Cultures in different parts of the world familiarise themselves with the ceremonies, food and clothes of other people, and it is highly likely that they will begin to improve on their own culture, developing more efficient ways of life while at the same time trying to retain their original cultural identity. Although some people might think that the said trade of cultural features can doom the unique identity of a culture, they need to consider that this will not necessarily result in local people abolishing their culture and fully embracing another. Instead, the communication and exchange involved in globalization can improve the understanding and tolerance in the international community, which certainly can help with the conservation of older cultures and their sense of identity. In conclusion, I think if the positive aspects of globalization are considered and stressed, it is not likely to pose any threats to the cultural identity of local communities and will instead contribute to it in a variety of ways.

Academic Task 1 - Anthropology University Graduates Pie Chart Sample Task The chart below shows what Anthropology graduates from one university did after finishing their undergraduate degree course. The table shows the salaries of the anthropologists in work after five years.... Complete Report The pie chart details the initial occupations of Anthropology students after their graduation and the table records their salaries following five years of work in various sectors. The trend suggest that most graduates took full-time positions, followed by part-time jobs, unemployment, graduate study, or unknown, and finally part-time work together with graduate study. The average salaries tended to be much higher for freelance consultants than those working in the government and private companies, though there were many federal workers in the highest salary bracket. Slightly more than half of that graduates reported at 52% were employed full-time, compared to only 15% of the graduates who were employed part-time, 12% of those surveyed were unemployed which is just a little bit lower than the part time respondents, The remaining two groups were categorised as unknown or pursuing full-time further education at only 8% for both, and finally 5% combining part-time work and postgrad study. In the table, freelance consultants were overwhelmingly employed in the upper pay scales at 40% in both $75,000 $99,999 and $100,000+, with just 20% making between $25,000 and $74,999. I’ll absolutely come along as this is a big day for you. I’ve got some great ideas as to how we can have a party that is off the hook. I think we should invite the whole gang. You know, all the boys from back in the day and their wives and girlfriends, too. We could go out for dinner to that place you like so much on the water and dine on the patio. I’ll contact every one and suggest the weekend of your birthday as the best time for the party to go down. I’ll also call the restaurant and make a reservation. Then after dinner, we can all go by limo bus to that club that is just around the bend from the restaurant on the water. After partying at the club for a few hours, I’ll arrange for a yacht to meet us at the nearby deck and we can go for a midnight booze cruise. The boat can take us to the resort just up the coast and then everyone can stay there for the night. The next day we can all have breakfast and return home on the boat. How does that sound? Let me know what you think, and I’ll start planning everything this week. All the best, Connor

Task 2 Sample Essay - Generations and Traditional Ideas Task The older generations tend to have very traditional ideas about how people should live, think, and behave. However, some people believe that these ideas are not helpful in preparing younger generations for modern life. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?... Complete Essay In today's world, the elderly are more likely to think that young people should live, think, and behave in a more traditional way so as to prevent their unique cultures from dying out. On the contrary, others believe that younger generations should opt to live, think, and behave like better more mature citizens of the world. I partly agree with these views for several reasons. It is impossible to overlook that roughly all countries have very different traditions and cultures, and it is definitely true that this allows people to live in a more multicultural world. Being so, it can be pointed out that every year several languages and traditions vanish due to the work of globalization and capitalism. And as such, this is why older generations normally want to protect their cultures in order to protect them from dying out. These older generations try to adopt the old ideas of living, thinking, and behaving in a more traditional way to the younger generations in their group or culture. I think that these ideas could be the key to keeping rare traditions alive. On the other hand, nobody can deny that with the advent of technologically developed devices change has occurred between these generations, and as a result, the world has become more competitive compared to the past. As such, I feel that younger generations should think, live, and behave more globally, to keep up with this constantly changing pace of life allowing for increased grow and change. Take the immense changes concerning business life, as just one example. So long as employees are eager to work in foreign countries, they should be open-minded to embrace generally accepted principles as many companies look to the future. In this scenario relying on the past will not allow for change and technological growth. In conclusion, I think that a life without culture or any tradition is next to impossible. While at the same time, being a modern young person offers countless advantages in terms of finding a job and earning more money. This is why, the younger generation should give a lot of importance, not only to live a modern life but to also try to keep unique traditions alive and well.

Task 2 Sample Essay - Future Book Trends Task Nowadays for many people, the Internet is replacing regular books. What do you think will happen in the future and what is your opinion about this trend?... Complete Essay Advancements in technology, as seen on the Internet, have revolutionized people’s lives and many are becoming more adept at online services every day. Printed books are commonly being replaced with digital content, allowing for an entirely new trend for their readers. The future of the publishing industry will continue to be digitized, as I believe even more content will become available in an e-format in the coming years. Online bookstore sites serve as an excellent alternative to ordinary book sales sites, which is impressive as these sites allow their readers to have access to the material whenever and wherever they want. This increasing trend of online book sales will reduce the significance of traditional libraries that are known to keep hundreds and thousands of books. Additionally, another benefit of an e-book is that they can be easily modified or edited, and countless copies can be made from the material, thereby reducing printing costs. Digital books are also easier to store, and their availability will not be affected by distribution delays that can be encountered after publishing. On another note, I do think that electronic book sales will not put an end to the publishing of traditional paperback books. Instead, e-book popularity will hinder any further development here significantly, mainly due to the fact that the price of an e-book is always much lower than a normal book. The distribution of e-books can also be sold on a larger scale through online stores like Amazon and Chapters Indigo. In fact, nowadays Kindle book versions are always made available before the printed versions are offered for sale. In the past, people have had to wait for months before they could get their hands on their favourite newly published book. I think more consumers will adapt to e-books, in part due to the rise in the usage of these reading devices themselves. To conclude, I feel the future of e-books will continue to flourish due to many technologically based trends that are making e-books more prevalent in the book industry.

Complete Report The line graph shows how many visitors traveled to a particular Caribbean island over the course of 7 years from 2010 until 2017. The trend suggests that the total number of tourists visiting the Caribbean island always increased during the entire period, and that the figure for visitors staying on cruise ships was lower than that of those choosing to stay on the island during much of the period. In 2010, the total quantity of tourists traveling to the Caribbean island stood at exactly 1 million, with 750,000 of them opting for staying on the island, whereas the rest decided to stay on cruise ships. Over the following 2 years, while there was an insignificant drop to reach the lowest point of just below 0.25 million in the number of visitors staying on cruise ships, staying on the island was still a more popular choice with 1.25 million visitors. In the final year, the Caribbean island witnessed a sharp rise to 3.5 million in the total number of visitors. Likewise, the number of tourists who stayed on cruise ships experienced a sharp increase to precisely 2 million, surpassing the figure for those who had stayed on the island which was at about 1.5 million showing a difference of half a million visitors.

The Function of a University Task Some people think that universities should provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in the workplace. Others think that the true function of a university should be to give access to knowledge for its own sake, regardless of whether the course is useful to an employer. What, in your opinion, should be the main function of a university?... Complete Essay The primary purpose of a tertiary education is to prepare graduates for their future careers. While thousands of people would enroll for the sake of acquiring general knowledge and skills which will make them competitive in the job market, there is a portion of students who would expect to obtain the specific qualifications for their dream job. Therefore, I strongly believe that universities should organize their course programs in order to provide future employees with all the skills for their specific occupation. One compelling reason for this is that most contemporary occupations are task-specific which makes it a necessity for workers to be able to comply with a certain job requirement. Once they graduate, they are expected to take over all the responsibilities their job needs them to do, have the know-how to do it, as well as, the expertise to carry out all the arduous and demanding tasks. For example, as soon as I graduated from the Faculty of Linguistics, I got a part-time teaching job. I was overwhelmed with all the expectations my employer had each and every day, and there was a need to know all the theory I had learned throughout my studies. On the other hand, it is beyond doubt that most jobs would require employees to do a lot of multi-tasking and to be capable of meeting deadlines while conducting any work. Apparently, big companies would prefer to employ a person that is well-equipped with all the necessary knowledge related to several positions within their range, instead of having to over-staff a department. Notwithstanding, the competitiveness among businesses, there is always a huge demand for well-rounded professionals within any sector. This will be possible, only if universities provide a broad breadth-based education and practice for their students. In conclusion, I would maintain that university education should be more content-specific, ensuring the fastest and highest quality for their graduates. Not only should professionals be able to use their university knowledge as a catalyst towards their career, but they should also receive very specific knowledge as to how to do their job.

Academic Task 1 Sample Report - Hawaiian Island Chain Map Sample Task The diagram below gives information about the Hawaiian island chain in the centre of the Pacific Ocean. ... Complete Report The Hawaiian island chain, in the centre of the Pacific Ocean, is approximately 2,700 km in length. The trend suggests that Hawaii is formed of volcanoes and the active ones are at the southeast tip of the archipelago, where the island of Hawaii itself is located. It is believed that the chain began to form nearly 80 million years ago. Each island started to evolve after an eruption on the seafloor. First, a `hot spot' existed on the ocean bed, which let out a plume of material called magma. This magma may have originated as deep as 2,883 km below the ocean bed. Next, further eruptions took place, which built up the volcano. Eventually, it emerged above the surface of the ocean. Since that time, the spume of magma has remained static as the Pacific tectonic plate moves in a northwest direction across it at a speed of 7 to 9 cm per year. As it moves, a volcano forms, as it passes over the hot spot and then becomes inactive when the hot spot has passed. Overall, the diagram highlights the volcanic activity in the Hawaiian Islands and the position of each volcanic island.
