We are proud to deliver high quality, and accessible eye care for the last nine years to the Durham Community but eye care in Ontario is at serious risk right now. Everyone knows how badly COVID-19 has strained our health care workers and decimated local businesses. Ontario’s optometrists are both. Now as we return to work with the new safety restrictions in place, we are forced to only safely see a small number of patients every day, and have had to reduce our services. Wh...ile we are committed to helping all patients, we deeply regret that we will be forced to redirect emergency appointments to a family doctor or an ophthalmologist in the Durham region, at this time. The reason behind this change in service is that a change to OHIP is needed in these trying times. For 30 years, due to the lack of funding from OHIP, optometrists have had to subsidize half the cost of delivering essential services and during these times, this is no longer sustainable. We would really appreciate if you would go to www.saveeyecare.ca and sign your name to a letter to your MPP, the Minister of Health and the Premier. It will take no more than 2minutes. Thank you.
