Is This Your Last Supper? I’ve heard this story a million times. Andrea, a new client, is getting ready to start training with us here at IronCore Kettle...bell. She's nervous but excited to see some results. It’s maybe Thursday, and she's starting her new program on Monday. But Monday she shows up bloated with low energy and 3 pounds heavier. Why, you ask? Because she literally binged all weekend on her favourite and soon-to-be forbidden foods. I’ve seen people create huge setbacks for themselves in the name of not being able to eat what they love ever again. And honestly, if you approach any workout or nutrition plan with that mentality, you will fail. It’s that simple. This is a truth that MUST be told. For years I'd go on a crazy "last supper" binge the weekend before I started my latest "all-new" weight loss program. I'd gain 5 (or more) pounds, feel like crap and then I'd fail... again. No food ever needs to be off limits. We just believe, for one reason or another, that it has to be this way to get results. However, "all or none" in health and fitness never, ever works. It can be as simple as eating a smaller portion, reducing the frequency, or finding a healthier alternative to your favourite foods. But there is never a reason to believe that you’re going to have to say goodbye to chocolate and wine forever. So, have you ever approached a fitness program with this mentality of never again? Why do we feel like we have to choose? Between the successful career and an amazing family? Between taking care of our health and time with kids?... Between doing the things we love and fulfilling our obligations? What if we could actually have it all? The family, career, health/fitness, freedom Because it’s possible. Most people just don’t believe it. Life is about AND Having health AND success. Having family AND self-care. We’ve got to get out of the mindset that we can’t have it all so you can actually begin to allow it into your life. You know those families you look at and wonder how the parents seem so together and happy all of the time? It’s because they’ve decided that they want it alland they’ve created it. No matter where you are in your life right now, you can decide you’re going to have it all too. Then, it’s a matter of taking the steps to create it. It’s as simple as that. So, my friend What have you been deeply desiring but afraid to let in? What would make life as sweet as you deserve it to be that you might have thought you just weren’t meant for?

Kettlebell Krusher - Melissa Green I remember when Melissa started with us in March of last year. She was a little nervous about picking these "heavy" 15 and 20 pound kettlebells. Today I'm thrilled to say she confidently swings 52 pounders and deadlifts 72 pounders - without any hesitation.... She bravely blasted through the limits of her comfort zone - which is why I'm proud to have Melissa as our Kettlebell Krusher for the week! In her own words: Why I chose IronCore Kettlebell Club For a few years now I have been in search of a gym that I could enjoy going to and actually get results from. I have always wanted to see results and changes in my body figure and that is exactly what my workouts at this gym have been doing for me. I recently found IronCore. It started with me hearing about a 6 week challenge! I was intrigued because I wasn’t stuck in a commitment that I might not enjoy. I have been coming to this gym since March of 2019 and I am just absolutely in love with everything about it; from the workouts, to the people who come and workout here and trainers. There are multiple class times available and you can come at different times according to your schedule, they even have women only times. The atmosphere in this gym makes my everyday just that much better. Everyone who comes to workout treats you with the utmost respect and constantly offers support. The members really just want to see others do good things and better themselves. The amount of correction, one-on-one guidance and group support I receive while attending these classes is amazing. At IronCore I feel like we are a family, everyone gets along and truly wants to see others succeed in their own goals. I like that the instructors watch for form and even help with the weights. If the move seems too easy they suggest heavier and if you are struggling they even recommend lighter. If you have for example knee issues, they will modify the routine to specifically fit you too! I have tried other gyms, some similar to this type of gym and a few typical local gyms, none of which seemed to do the trick for me. I know exactly what it is like to walk into a gym and feel judged, unsure of what to do, which weights to grab and even how to do the type of moves that are done in a kettlebell gym. Walking into IronCore I did not feel any of that. I was instantly welcomed with open arms, with support, motivation, encouragement and I really always feel like part of their family. IronCore is perfect if you’re looking to better yourself, your health, body figure, if you’re struggling with your weight or something as simple as getting stronger. Here you won't feel judged, shamed or uncomfortable. Here you WILL feel supported, encouraged, loved and welcomed.

What is Metabolism and Why Does It Matter? Metabolism is the process that the body uses to convert food into energy. YES, in order to lose weight, we need to expend MORE energy than we take in.... BUT... It is practically impossible to accurately count calories. Here is why calorie counting alone is faulty: People are not great at eyeballing calories. Food labels can have a % of error. Cooking and preparing foods can alter the calories and nutrients significantly. Energy burned through digestion varies depending on macronutrients. The body burns calories in various ways and every person differs. It is very hard to accurately know how many calories we burn when we exercise. Your body burns energy in various ways: Basal metabolic rate: the energy used to keep you alive Thermal effect of food: calories used to chew, swallow, churn the stomach, make the acid in the stomach, make the enzymes, etc. Physical activity: exercise Movement: everyday activities Unfortunately, as we age, our resting metabolic rate naturally goes down. It is what it is. And, I know it sounds obvious, but one thing that we also need to keep in mind is that every BODY is different. One size doesn’t fit all and there is always more to the story. Everybody processes, absorbs, and uses food differently also known as our metabolism. Plus, the body is really good at maintaining homeostasis. So if you are not eating a lot of calories, your body will do whatever it takes to not make you move as much. If you have extra energy, you are more likely to get up and run up the stairs or go do a work out. Everybody’s body is different. It’s important to learn what YOUR body needs in order for your body to function at its most efficient level. After struggling for years to get results Monika joined our 6 Week Weight Loss Challenge. She dedicated herself to working out 30 minutes a day 4-5 times a week and followed the meal plan... ...and her results were AMAZING!... She lost 17.2 pounds and 4 3/4 inches off her waist!! Here's her story: I took part in the fall fitness challenge because I wanted to try and lose some weight. Thanks to the rivalry I was more motivated and did not want to be in last place. At first I didn't believe in myself and I thought I would give up quickly. However, many people who came to the gym and who I didn't even know always supported me! The first week was the most difficult when it comes to food. Meals seemed very small, I felt hungry all day. In the second week it was better, I began to get used to the new food and drink a lot of water. When the weight started to fall, I felt more motivated and decided to stick to the end. In 6 weeks I was able to lose over 17 pounds and 4 3/4 inches off my waist. I still can't believe it and I decided to go for more. I'm still on a diet and doing a lot of exercise. Wendy lost 23.4 pounds and 5 1/2 inches off her waist in 30 minutes a day to win our last 6 Week Challenge. As an over-40 Mom with 4 young children she stopped making excuses and made some time for self-care. I'm SO proud of her effort and success, now down over 57 pounds and looking amazing! (more pics to follow)... Here's her incredible Challenge story: I love a challenge, who doesn't? I love the energy that the group of people who join bring to the gym. It's exciting and fun. Also they become one big support system for each other, everyone is cheering on everyone, you want everyone one to succeed. The meal plans are simple and easy to make. It also works great with the family. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change. I hear people say all the time that you can heal your body by changing the way you eat, and it's true. I am in a better mood, I am not tired all the time, I am getting better quality of sleep at night, I feel way more energetic, also my mind is alot clearer, I don't have that fogginess anymore. This time during the challenge I realized I am my biggest competition, I am also my own worst enemy! I would always listen to the outside voices and I would let them control me and how I lived my life. About 3 weeks in to the challenge I had an "Ah Ha" moment, all those voices that I thought was controlling me was actually One voice. It was my own voice. I was self sabotaging myself every time and I didn't even know it. I am not saying that I am gonna be 100% on track all the time, but I have definitely finally figured it out! You get out of it what you put into it!!! I gave it my ALL this challenge. I set a personal goal for myself and I met it! I have all the tools I need to continue this journey. I just take it one day at a time. How do I feel now that the challenge is done? Very easy..... Studies show that setting a goal for yourself that is difficult to reach results in a higher success rate than setting an easy-to-reach goal. Study conductors believe that when the goal is difficult, not impossible, it results in more focused and intentioned action which leads to higher success rates. So, have a big, hairy audacious goal that excites you. If it doesn't excite you then you'll lose motivation quickly.... Something that's a reach but not impossible for you to achieve. Then set small daily actions to achieve it. Winning the Stanley Cup is every NHL teams big goal. The St. Louis Blues didn't win the Cup by winning just one game. While everyone remembers them hoisting the Cup after the game 7 win, it would not have been possible without all the actions they took day in and day out. VULNERABILITY Is The Path To TRANSFORMATION If I had a dollar for every time a prospective client cried during our initial talk, I’d be very rich. These amazing humans who sit down in front of me have often spent years or even decades holding in their pain.... Whether it’s their lack of self-confidence, their unhappiness with life situations, or sometimes even the fact that they’ve lost their identities somewhere along the way, I’ve talked with many deeply unhappy people. And it’s almost like they’ve held it all in for so long that the moment I start asking questions about their goals, dreams, and past experiences, their emotions just explode. Sadly, so many people walk around with no one asking them on a deeper level how they’re REALLY doing. Because they’re not ‘fine’ as most people say. Walt Disney Lied!! I don’t know about you, but I remember very vividly growing up one of the famous Disney songs: When you wish upon a star... Makes no difference who you are Anything your heart desires Will come to you This is only partially true. I absolutely believe that we can make any of the desires of our heart turn into reality. But it’s missing a lyric between lines 3 and 4 It’s the line that talks about taking ACTION to bring your dreams to fruition. Because here’s the thing, a lot of people have dreams and desires, but they spend all of their time in the wishing, dreaming, hoping, and planning stage. And suddenly years have gone by and life is no different. Their bodies are no different (and in many cases, they’re even worse). Life will pass us by if we let it. People age without ever truly loving and feeling confident in the body they’re in. People die early deaths because they put the dream off for too long. And people put off living an exceptional, exciting, and fulfilling life until it’s no longer possible. Because our dreams don’t chase us... we chase them. But if you’re not in the chase, then those dreams will always be that distant wish and hope. So, is there an area in your life around which you have big hopes and dreams but have failed to act? WHAT IF YOU WERE YOUR OWN HERO? We idolize so many people and things in our culture. Today, both men and women want to look like fitness models - even though they know that deceitful tricks are used to get the models to look the way they do (Photoshop and dangerous dehydration being two biggies).... Marvel Comics has a multi-billion dollar enterprise creating comic books, action figures, and movies about super heroes. We love to look at others and want what they have. We even do this with friends, family members, or strangers. We wish we were as good at cooking as they were. We wish we could afford a house like them. We wish our kids would be as polite as their kids. We wish we had their personality or body type. Imagine if WE could pick who WE were? Imagine being able to stroll down an aisle at the local mall and picking out everything from hair colour to salary to personality traits, and so on. In some ways we can pick things out. Hair colour can be drastically changed in a few hours. Salary can be affected by getting a new job, negotiating with your current boss, getting more education, or switching careers entirely. And a really cool thing that we can change is our health and our body. It’s totally possible to commit to a health and fitness program that delivers results. It’s totally possible to drop 50 pounds or get stronger, or improve our heart function or become more flexible or lower our cholesterol. All of these things are doable. And you don’t need a super hero to save you. YOU can be your OWN hero. You can do the work it takes to be the person you want to be and live this life in the body you want. You CAN do it. You have all that you need already inside of you: the desire, the vision, and the ability to do the work. You can be a hero to yourself to your kids to your sister-in-law to your neighbour You can be the person that other’s look at and say: Gosh, I wish I had her (body, health, stamina, determination, ability to take action, etc). When we step up and treat ourselves as being capable that is when things REALLY start to change. You are a super hero you just didn’t know it until now. You have the ability to transform your life and positively affect those that mean the world to you. What an amazing super power to have! 3 Ways To Lose Bodyfat That Have Nothing To Do With Dieting Even as a Fitness Professional, sometimes I feel my own head spinning with the amount of diet plans, supplements, coaches, and offers on the market. It almost seems like every Facebook friend is selling a different solution.... So, today I want to offer you 3 ways that you can drop bodyfat that cost nothing and don’t require the next crazy fad diet Speak kindly to yourself I fully believe that our bodies become what we say they are. If you’re constantly telling yourself that you’re fat or out of control, your behaviour will reflect those things, and ultimately, so will your body. Visualize yourself creating the body you dream of In your mind’s eye, every single day see the version of you that you desire to become moving throughout your day, practicing the habits you want to commit to, and creating the body you want. Pay attention to your triggers Notice the emotion, experiences, and/or people surrounding your choices for bad food or skipping exercise. Change the routine. Surround yourself with different people. Choose to assign different meaning or emotions to those trigger experiences. Changing patterns and habits change outcomes. Creating change is never easy, and sustaining it for a lifetime is even harder. But I promise that if you incorporate these behavioural pieces into your daily routine, you will begin noticing a huge difference in yourself that will also show up in how your body looks. 10 QUICK TIPS FOR DINING OUT It's Saturday night and many of us will be going out to eat or having take-out. This can easily lead to a binge or calorie blow-out...... but it doesn't have to. :-) Use these 10 tips to ENJOY your dinner without killing your gains (or losses): 1 - Eat a snack with protein before you go so that you are not starting at the restaurant. 2 - Order water and sip it before and throughout the meal. 3 - Start with a salad with dressing on the side - choose oil and vinegar over creamy dressings. 4 - Order one or two appetizers instead of an entree or split your entree with someone else. 5 - Choose tomato based sauces over creamy ones. 6 - Avoid all you can eat buffets 7 - Choose dishes with vegetable or sub vegetables for fries. 8 - Save half of your meal for lunch the next day. 9 - Drink coffee or tea for dessert 10 - Read the menu before you go. You might see a meal highlighted as "low-fat," "gluten-free" or "sugar-free but these labels don't necessarily mean a choice is healthy. Added sugars and fats can be hidden in these foods to make them taste better.

The trainers are awesome, the people are great and it's such a positive environment. The best part is the workout's are only 30 min! I love how I don't need to spend hours at the gym and I am still getting a strenuous workout. I'm so glad I joined because not only do I feel great but I love how I look in my wedding dress!! Overcoming winter weight gain Did you know that the average person gains 5-7 pounds during the winter? The simple answer as to why this happens is because we eat more and move less during the winter months.... In the book, Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think, Dr. Brian Wansink talks about the mindless margin. This is the margin or zone in which we can slightly overeat or undereat without even realizing it. How easy is it to mindlessly munch and overeat? Or run out the door and hardly eat breakfast? Here are three ways we can make an effort to be MORE aware and keep off those winter pounds. Discipline Commit to exercise and eating healthy. When there is Valentines chocolates sitting around the house, choose to not eat them. When it is dark and cold outside, put your feet on the floor when you alarm goes off and get up and start moving. Movement Society focuses so much on exercise but MOVEMENT as a way of life is even more important. Our bodies were meant to move. Our bodies need to move to function. Movement is essential, with just enough exercise, in order to achieve the health benefits everyone wants and the aesthetics that some desire. While strength and cardio work is useful, neither of these things alone will offer the optimal results you will get from making your entire life one that has movement and healthy eating as the centerpiece. Replace your internal dialogue Don’t let the winter blues get you down. You are not a victim of the winter or your circumstances. You are in control of your actions. Member Spotlight: Kellee Plante Kellee was fit most of her life doing competitive dance and running. Then she got married and became a mom (twice). First of all, weight loss is not the ONLY goal someone should have. In fact, it should really be a secondary result of living a healthier - longer - life.... Before you jump on the keto or paleo bandwagon, you need to address any deficiencies in your diet. More than 80 percent of the population has at least one nutritional deficiency. If your body is lacking something it needs, it simply will not function properly and that makes any health or fitness goal a lot harder. So, to eliminate deficiencies, the first thing you must do is clean up your diet a bit. 3 REASONS WHY YOU ARE HUNGRY Many diets fail because, well, you get hungry! 1 - Distracted Eating... Studies show that you tend to eat what is put in front of you. So, if you are mindlessly snacking on a bag of chips while watching tv, it is very easy to eat the whole bag before realizing it! => Learn to sit down and eat without distractions. Set your fork down between bites and enjoy your food. 2 - Misunderstanding Hunger Cues Those who aim to eat to about 80% full tend to eat less. Simply being aware of this will help you to put your fork down and decide if you are still hungry. Practice feeling and acknowledging hunger without going right to a food choice you will later regret - learn to navigate the middle ground between starving and stuffed and manage your hunger. Learn what foods are actually delicious and which are not. => Ask yourself if you could wait 20 minutes to eat in order to give yourself time to make a healthier choice. Consider if you want to finish a meal or save some for later... 3 - Too Much Processed Foods To crave nutritious food, you must eat mostly nutritious food. Studies say processed and sugary foods make you want more processed and sugary foods - and less nutritious food! We digest and absorb sugary foods quickly and easily. They over stimulate the reward/pleasure centers in our brain and we tend to overeat them. These foods and our brain’s response to them often lead to overconsumption. => To stop craving junk reduce it as much as you can. It may seem hard when you start, but it gets easier as you do it... and it's totally worth it.
