Baby goat snuggles are the best. Had a productive morning cleaning the barn and vaccinating the next round of mommas to deliver. Now playing the waiting game for Jubilee and Poppy to kid. #powellriver #powellriverbc #powellriverliving #powellriverlife #sunshinecoastbc #nigeriandwarfgoats #nigeriandwarfgoat #nigeriandwarf #goat #goats #goatlife #babygoats #farm #farmlife

Why disbudding is important to us: While we know that disbudding isn’t for everyone, that’s not the point of this #ndgoatweek featured topic. Disbudding to us, and many others, is a necessary evil of goat ownership and breeding. We disbud our goats for several reasons, #1 being that we’re breeding registered animals with strong dairy lineage and body styles that are ideal for SHOWING. Show goats aren’t allowed to have horns. Simple as that. #2, SAFETY. As many of you know, g...oats LOVE to get into trouble. They’re Jedi-Master cheeky escape artists that thrive on attention... without horns, our goats are less likely to get themselves in a sticky situation that could potentially lead to severe harm, or even death. We can’t afford to take any chances with our beloved goat friends. Not only is it safer for them to not have horns, but it’s safer for everyone else too. Even though we love to think our animals are 100% predictable, they’re still animals. You never know what could happen. Again, to us, it’s just not worth taking the chance. Having said all that. Disbudding isn’t for everyone, and that’s ok too. No one knows what’s best for your farm and your goals better than YOU! Taking a quick break for some much needed barn cleaning. But I’ll be back in a bit to talk about the tools of the trade. #goatweek #nigeriandwarfgoats #nigeriandwarfgoat #nigeriandwarf #goatsofinstagram #goats #disbudding #farm #farmlife #homestead #powellriver #powellriverbc #britishcolumbia #bcfarm

Today’s topic is LGDs (Livestock Guardian Dogs). This is something near and dear to my heart as I lost two baby goats to predators this spring and have since purchased and am training 2 guardians for the farm. I can’t believe how different the mind of an LGD is compared to a regular dog. Watch this profile for info!
Another amazing topic for new or experienced goat owners! Parasite Management is so important and something that’s often overlooked. So much knowledge here.
Next topic. Another super important one! Feeding! Yellow Point Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats broke down their info into several different posts organized by gender, age, etc! Amazing info here. Go check it out!
