Trails 1,2 and 4 were groomed today. Trail 3 should be done Saturday

Beware that a dog was badly injured yesterday while deviating from the doggie trail and jumping around in deep snow. Major cuts on the paws were likely from sharp metal objects that have been discarded near the first 150 metres of the trail. Though it has never been an issue in the past, two factors may have contributed to it: 1) we have very very little snow this season and those dangerous items were probably protected by layers of ice and snow in previous years. 2) usually ...this dog only strays 20 or 30 feet off trail but in this incident it strayed upwards of 100 feet off the trail To compound matters, there is no local clinic currently active and veterinarians in Timmins will flat out refuse emergency treatment if your dog is not registered with them. This could force you to seek treatment several hours away (in this case, it was Kapuskasing). Your pets are your responsibility and as always, you use the trails at your own risk. A leash may prevent this from happening, but that also poses other safety hazards. Please be careful out there and stay active.

Just a reminder on trail etiquette. No dogs allowed on any trails except the Jack and Joe (#4) trail. This trail crosses the snowmobile trail and does not intercept the other ski or snowshoe trails. If you need to take your skis off while on a trail please walk on the side of the trail avoiding both the classic tracks and the skate area as it poses a danger to skiers.
