We seem to have experienced some snow volcanic activity locally. The Harmsworths and the Aubin’s were key witnesses and scientists at the scene. View their discoveries below. Be safe! Directions: 1. Make a volcano shape out of snow. 2. Put a cup in the volcano.... 3. Add baking soda to the cup. 3. Poor vinegar in the cup. Optional: Add food colouring to the vinegar. Note: The more baking soda and vinegar the greater the chemical reaction. Photo credit: The Harmsworths and The Aubins #goirwin
Straight from the Laurence Family Science Lab we have a curious scientist learning about colour, absorption, and translucent materials. Directions: 1. Fold paper towel like a card. 2. Use a permanent marker to draw a picture.... 3. Open up the paper towel card and colour your inside picture with water colour markers. 4. Fold and place in water. 5. Observe and be amazed! Kids, try this at home. Video credit: Laurence family #goirwin
All aboard! Irwin, check out the T & E Flyer(snow train) created by the Dunsmore family. How many wheels? How do you see them? Find the math. Directions... 1: Fill boxes with snow. 2. Let the snow sinter(snow binds together) for 2 hours minimum or overnight. 3. Carve the snow with plastic spoons. 4. Spray with food colouring and water. 5. Go for a ride!! Choo! Choo! Happy coincidence. Kinderland has been learning the /ch/ sound like choo choo train. What can you make? Share your snow creation photos! Photo credit: Dunsmore family #goirwin #tldsblearns

Irwin Celebrates Week of Kindness! This past week we celebrated the Week of Kindness at Irwin. It was awesome! We focused on "support" and "empathy" out of our RISE(Resilience, Integrity, Support, and Empathy) well-being initiative. View our kindness calendar and photos of our awesome students in the kindness zone. Huge shout out to Melissa Kilpatrick(parent to Abby and Charlie). She is a nurse practitioner and created a video to share with our Irwin students about how the ...community has shown "support" to the hospital staff during the pandemic and how we can show "support" to others. You made support relevant and meaningful to us. We were truly inspired by your message. Huge shout out to our Irwin student leaders for reading kindness and support stories to us on video and for creating a kindness video. Continue to shine! Join us today for our Remembrance Day Virtual Assembly 2020 created by students and staff. They shall not grow old as we grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. #goirwin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7JJGziibDg&feature=youtu.be
Happy Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day Ms Cripps! Thanks for making Kinderland magical! Mrs Max, Mrs Sutherland, & Kinderland #goirwin
Happy Thanksgiving! Our littlest gardeners harvested our veggies and, with the help of the Salvation Army and Faith Baptist Church, have found them good homes. Thanks to Sarah Roberts for championing our garden once again and giving our students experiences to learn about where our food comes from. #goirwin #stewardsoftheearth

Another amazing school/community event! To honour Irwin’s 35th year of participating in the Terry Fox run, each class was challenged to run 35km as a group. We nailed it! We ran a total of 335km and raised $1200.00 for cancer research. Support from the community is so appreciated, a special nod to The Beacon staff for donating their tips to the cause!
Irwin staff are happy to announce that we will be once again participating in the Terry Fox Run on Wednesday September 30th. Although the run will look different compared to the past we are proud to be participating once again. This year is also special as it marks the 40th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run. This year classes will be participating one at a time during their Physical Education period. The goal would be to see if your class can run 40km in total to help cele...brate the 40th year of the run itself. Donations this year will be online only. Please consider donating using the following link: http://www.terryfox.ca/IrwinMemorialPSDwight As a school we are aiming to raise $350 to celebrate our 35th year of participation. We will share with you the total kms our school ran after our Terry Fox day. Thank you for your continued support for this charity and Canadian hero.
