It's that time of year when residents can be watching for the honeybee predator, Asian giant hornets, which have been found in previous years in the southern part of the region, scattered between Abbotsford, Langley and White Rock. BC officials are increasing the number of Asian giant hornet traps set along the border with Washington state and asking for help from residents to do the same in an effort to track and destroy the invasive species. If you think you have seen an Asian giant hornet, submit a photo of the insect to bcinvasives.ca/report, or call the Invasive Species Council of BC at 1-888-933-3722.

An alert from our neighbours to the South - zebra mussels were recently found in shipments of aquarium plants (mossballs) sold at pet stores. The Government of British Columbia (Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy) is currently working with US colleagues and Canadian federal colleagues to find out if any shipments have come to Canada.
