- Muslim Pro, a popular app with over 98 million downloads worldwide that Muslims use to calculate prayer times based on their location is harvesting user data and selling it to the US military who are using it for "counter-terrorism" purposes. This surveillance is just the latest effort in the criminalization of Muslims. This should be a wake up call to Muslims about how deeply embedded the state surveillance/security apparatus is ...in our daily lives, even in the most mundane of ways. From targeted astro-turfing, to the push for a new 'European'-style of Islam by EU leaders - Muslims continue to be singled out, securitised and face surveillance practices https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201117-us-military-har/

In video games, we have to fulfill some quests and get some rewards in return. Players should follow a set of rules. Sometimes, you can even "respawn" if you fail or you can choose to restart. You see, our life is NOT a game. Our goal isn't as trivial as winning some points, completing missions and becoming a champion. Our life is bigger and more complex than that. Our death is not our end. Neither can we start over again using extra lives to repeat the failed last mission th...e way we did in video games. There's a bigger purpose that we need to achieve in this life. Everyone lives their lives in different directions. Some people seek wealth, prosperity, luxury, position or pleasure. On the other side, some just want to survive, thinking about what they are going to eat the next day. As Muslims, we have ONE PRIME QUEST, which is to worship Allah. The purpose of life is to try and do everything in a way that Allah loves and is pleased with. Allah has given us time to prepare for the next life after we enter the "death door." We will see that everything we've been through in life ends in a blink and subsequently face the real tribunal. THERE WILL BE NO RESPAWN. No extra time, no reload button, no second chance. Abdullah Ibn 'Umar (R.A) would say, "If you make it to the evening, do not wait for the morning. If you make it to the morning, do not wait for the evening. Take from your health for your sickness, and from your life for your death." [Saheeh al-Bukhari: 6053]

Most of you may know by now of the new measures announced by the government of Alberta in response to rising COVID-19 cases, which includes guideline for places of worship to limit the number of attendees to 1/3 of capacity. In order to keep the community safe, RDIC will be implementing the following measures... ... Only a limited number of attendees will be allowed for Jumm'ah prayers after which the doors will be locked. Attendance is on a first come, first entry basis. Children under the age of 12 years will not be allowed until further notice. Sisters are also asked to please refrain from attending the masjid at this time due to very limited space. Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring their own prayer mat. We also advise attendees to wear a mask when possible. We thank you all for your cooperation & understanding and ask Allah to accept our worship and alleviate this difficulty from us. *Management, Red Deer Islamic Center*

Assalaamu Alaiukm Warahmatullah. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, we are extending our support to the community in several ways. We have been spending a lot of resources in the continuous cleaning and sanitization of the masjid and doing our utmost to maintain a safe and healthy environment at the Red Deer Islamic Center as well as the Sylvan Lake prayer hall. Due to the Islamic Center being limited to only a small group of people, and due to the big drop in the number of ...attendees for the Friday Prayers, our weekly donations have dropped significantly. The COVID-19 crisis has impacted each and everyone of us and the Red Deer Islamic Center is no exception. We recognize that a lot of people in the community have lost their jobs or seen their businesses close. However, there are many who are fortunate enough to still have a steady income. So we are urging those community members to donate generously to the Islamic Center during this tough time. Please donate to help with the recurring expenses (salaries, bills, supplies etc) of the Islamic Center. You can keep your donations coming through online via the PayPal link below at: http://www.paypal.me/IslamRedDeer Alternatively, if you do not have a credit card, you can send an interac eTransfer to the masjid via the following email: [email protected] We also continue to provide essential services listed below despite this crisis. You may donate to the these causes by giving your Zakat towards our social assistance programs. Please send the Zakat only through interac email transfer and write a note that it is towards your Zakat obligation so we can keep it separate from masjid expenses. Some of the essential services we are providing are; Food Hampers: The RDIC has partnered with IFSSA to help individuals and families who are in need of help (contact us through email at [email protected] Funeral Help: To get help and guidelines for arranging funeral during this time, you may reach the center by calling 403-307-2669 or 403-363-3900. Grocery Deliveries: For the elderly and immuno compromised community members, our volunteers will pick up your groceries and deliver it to your door-step. (contact one of our volunteer at 403-617-8474 for more info on how this works). Help us continue paying our bills and more importantly, at this time, help us help the less fortunate in the community. May Allah bless you and your family for your kindness and generosity. For more info, please visit www.RedDeerIslamicCenter.ca

Family is everything. If you don't have it, you've nothing. Family assimilates our dream, success, hope, happiness, sorrow and pain. The idea of family is diffe...rent from man to man but general idea are similar. The significant and important part of family is 'Religion'. If you don't have family, you must not have a religion and ironically that's what our Western and European Societies want. Religious people are lovely and they're more happier than the atheist, agnostic, and feminist.

Sh Yasser Al-Dawsary is one of the imams of the Haram in Mecca. And he tells a story of an incident that happened over twenty years ago that he witnessed. He was sitting in the masjid reciting the Quran to his teacher when a man came who looked extremely disturbed emotionally. The man walked up to the shaykh and said, I am feeling disturbed and need you to recite the Quran over me. The Shaykh said, I am with my student now, but why dont you go to the front of the masjid, ...pray two rakahs, sit and recite the Quran. Continue reciting until I call for you. The man walked to the front of the Masjid and the shaykh then had his student read an extended session, for over half an hour. When he finally called for the man, he returned with a face other than the one he had first arrived with! His attitude was completely different. He looked content and calm. When the shaykh offered to recite on him the man said, May Allah reward you, I dont need it anymore. My mind is relieved and I feel better. The shaykh then said, I knew when you came in that your soul looked like it was starving. That is why I told you to pray two rakahs and read the Quran. Shaykh Yasser never forgot this conversation and would recount it decades later. The prophet (SallaAllahu alayhi wasallam) said, The man who has nothing of the Quran inside him is like a ruined house [Reported in Tirmidhi] In brief...when we dont have a relationship with the Quran we are missing out on nourishment for our souls.

If you are buying or using face masks, please ensure that they are not made in china. The communist chinese oppressors are forcing our Uighur Muslims brothers and sisters into slave labour to make masks that eventually end up in our markets. We need to ensure that we do not - in any way - financially support those companies that are opressing the Uighurs. We must also demand all provincial and national governments to ban the import of products made by forced labour in china.

Some years ago, some parents rang me up and they said that their teenage son had run away from home after he had been caught smoking weed and they wanted me to ...speak to him and tell him to come back. It took a very long time, but I managed to locate him and speak to him. He was about 13 years old and he spoke to me about how he began smoking weed and doing other things like drinking because he was sick of seeing family problems in his home. He said that his parents were fighting, splitting up and getting back together. He said that he saw abuse, anger and resentment - and what hurt him the most was that nothing which he learnt in Madrassah was ever seen in his home. There was no praying, no one opened the Qur'an, no one gave salam, and no one ever mentioned Allhu. There was just jumm'ah and suhur/iftar in Ramadan. He called it hypocrisy and said that he preferred being a complete chiller than to be a hypocrite. After much effort I managed to get him back home and things remained stable. Dear mum and dad, the home is the greatest madrassah. If you don't put the prayer mat down yourself then don't expect your kid to do it. If you want your child to memorise and learn then you have to memorise and learn with them. Your job is not just to slave in the dunya from 7am to 6pm 365 days a week to feed your families. Allah is the Razzaq. Your job is to also give time to your children and teach them how to be slaves of our Lord. We don't want road-men. We want real men. We are living in dangerous times and If you don't know Him then how do you expect your child to?

If you were not able to donate the fitra before today, you can still do so now, as it is still mandatory on the head of the household for each person in your family. It will be considered a regular sadaqah now. The Noble Messenger of Allah ( Sallallâhu 'alayhi wasallam) said: ... "The fast remains suspended between Heaven and Earth until the fitrah is paid." Surat Al-Qadr was revealed after the Prophet told the companions of a man who lived in the ages of the past who would pray Qiyam-ul-Layl every night and would go out in the path of Allah every day. He did this for a thousand months. They said, Oh Messenger of Allah , none of us even lives for a thousand months!... And so Allah revealed, We have brought it down in the Night of Decree. And what would allow you to know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than the worship of a thousand months. (Surat Al-Qadr v. 1-3) You might have missed it, but the statement of the companions is incredibly profound. Most people when they hear the story of nations past simply nod their head and appreciate it for what it is, a story. The companions saw it as a challenge! They wanted to compete with every nation that ever lived. They wanted to worship Allah better than any community. They wanted to be the best Ummah. And so Allah gave us a night that is equal to the worship of a thousand months. So who are you competing with? Let us all remind each other to take advantage of this night. Pray, read, make Duaa, Give Charity! May Allah accept from us all. Aameen

Why are Muslims divided about when to start fasting for this holy month? Here is a video for everyone to watch on how the decision to begin the month of Ramadan is made by most masaajid and Islamic centers who follow the saudi sightings or so-called global sightings. The video also explains the saudi methodology of "moonsighting" and how they decide on the beginning day of each month. https://youtu.be/2I1VH-nDmTc
