If I could only grow one Ranunculus, these would be them! Yesterday we unpacked our dormant Ranunculus corms, and awoken them with a 4-hour soak in water to activate them. The corms were then planted in crates lined with moist soil, and will be stored at a cool temperature for about 2 weeks until it’s time to plant. I know you’re looking forward to these heavenly flowers, the beauty they seep from the farm makes my job too easy! This is a variety called Salmone Elegance from Unicorn Blooms and the colour range is achingly beautiful!

This is your mid week reminder that you are a forced to be reckoned with and to not let the wildness of the world bring you down. Your soul shines bright and things like a walk in nature, cozying up to a good book by the fireplace, or soaking in the bath tub can help when times are tough. There is SO much beauty yet to come, hang in there sister! You’ve got this. Keep going

What is your favourite foliage that makes you smile? I don’t often pick favourites, but put a sprig of Eucalyptus in a bouquet and it just brings everything to life with it’s beautiful colours and aromatic fragrance. Foliage is always under rated, but it can seriously transform a bouquet into something magnificent! P.S. Our Thanksgiving bouquets are available for Pre-order on our website starting today

Farm Stand Sunday Summer has come and gone, which means it’s time to embrace sweater weather, simmering pots of soup on the stove, and warm glowey fires to stay warm by. Our flower season will continue until frost kisses our fields and signals for rest and hibernation. Until then, let us shower you in Autumn’s amazing abundance! The stand is open from 9am-7pm. Whatever your Sunday ahead brings, may you find peace and beauty amid the chaos. -Bronwyn & Chris

The last Bouquet Subscriptions of 2020 are headed out the door and en route for delivery. ‘Pivot’ has been the word of 2020 for small business’. We’ve all had to make changes in just about every aspect of our lives. When all our weddings and special events were cancelled and faded into the future, being a creative type, we were keen to fill the voids. Bouquet Subscriptions were our way of ‘Pivoting’. New endeavours can always drum up worries of the unknown, but looking back... at the past 5 months, I’m happy we accepted the challenge. Sticking to our guiding beliefs, we were able to shower so many wonderful humans with our farm grown flowers. To all our members, thank you for taking a leap of faith on us. Thank you for telling your friends and neighbours about us. Thank you for supporting our ‘Pivot’. Thank you for gifting these subscriptions to family members in need of some sunshine. Thank you for all your kind messages and enthusiasm for our work. It’s been such an honour. -Bronwyn See more

Do you have a favourite colour that makes you happy? Mine changes all the time. I believe (I think!), in this moment, it’s ranges of orange and especially peachy tones. The Zinnias pictured here are a combo of Queen Orange & Benary’s Giant Salmon Rose.

Stop Your Scroll! We need your help! Lisianthus! A favourite of everyone who visits our farm or who receives our bouquets; they are the most star-worthy flower grown on our farm. Spoiler Alert: The summer is coming to an end. I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But it’s also time for us to look towards the future and start planning next year’s garden.... Would you lend us a hand? Let us know in the comments below which lisianthus variety is most dreamiest? Your voice will help determine next year’s crops , and with your support, our flower farming journey continues! So what will it be? A, B, C, or D? See more

Our crew’s first day back this week on the farm and it’s a full day of harvesting! We typically harvest twice a week but weren’t able to with the wildfire smoke and air pollution levels being so toxic. We lost a lot of dahlias, and some lisianthus too, but if anything, it’s just a reminder and lesson in letting things go and rolling with the punches. Farmer Advice: Fighting Mother Nature is a loosing battle; embrace uncertainty and welcome it into your heart. Take care everyone and stay safe! Pictured here, Zinnia Jazzy Mix.

Friday morning we woke up to smoke settling into the forest. By Sunday we couldn’t finish our morning chores without coughing. We value the importance of our health, and for all our team members, so we set our to-do lists aside and stayed indoors to wait for the smoke to leave. It’s Wednesday today, and still no sign of the sky. Our hearts go out to everyone effected by the wildfires burning on the West Coast, especially those who don’t have the choice to hit ‘pause’ on the farm.

Summer Reflections These are the days I’ll dream of in the cold winter months. Standing in a field that’s a reflection of countless months of planing and hard labour. Our small but mighty crew of female farmers. The big, small, and microscopic lives that share this plot of land with us. Creating change in the world and building connection with our community with flowers being our device. It’s not always about me, or you, or any particular one of us. It’s about maintaining t...he web of life. Island Flower Farm is about Connection. Integrity. Kindness. Education. Acceptance. Gratitude. Relationships. And Personal responsibility. The greater good is not served by all of us wanting to be number one. I don’t want the best, or the greatest. I want contentedness. Less stress. To hone in on my gifts to guide anyone else who is interested to do the same. What is your ‘why’? What guides you? What are your ethos? I’d love to know. -Bronwyn

I don’t like to pick favourites, but hands down, Lisianthus is the most beautiful late summer flower we grow on the farm. An achingly beautiful bloom paired with a long vase life; they are nothing short of magical! What’s your take on them?
