Hi Ramblers, While the recent Public Health Order is putting a damper on our ability to host events in person. I want to encourage you to take advantage of some of the other benefits your membership offers you. We have a great collection of books in our library that can be borrowed by reserving the book, then I'll place it in the pickup box outside my house. ... We offer a great education rebate for our members. You can register for an online course and then access the rebate to reduce this cost! http://islandmountainramblers.com/join-the-island-mounta//

September 26th, 2020 ~ submitted by Bil Derby The logistics of this trip demand vehicle shuttles or two groups, each starting at opposite ends. With John Young leading (and planning) it is a simple task to co-lead from the opposite end. With our trip planned to start at the Wood Mountain trail head and John's trip to start at the Mt Washington trail head all participants met at Piercy Road at 08.00 for a vehicle swap - a great plan by John as it put each of our respective vehicles at the place where we would end the day. We are thrilled to present Margaret Symon with her recognition of achieving the Bronze level of the Lifetime Climbing Objective --10 of the 20 peaks on the list. Margaret Symon, a then young and enthusiastic IMR member from 1973 to 1984 (part of which time she served as Secretary) is notably credited as the co-leader of the first party to summit a then-unnamed peak in Strathcona Park. September 10 13, 2020 ~ submitted by Greg Deabler John Young led the August rendition of the Augerpoint traverse, but as there were so many people interested, Greg Deabler, a very experienced mountaineer and fairly new Rambler member, was recruited to put on another trip in September. After cancellations and injuries, the group was down to six, but what a fine mix of six were we! [ 1,021 more word ] http://islandmountainramblers.com/20//augerpoint-traverse/

--submitted by Matthew Lettington; originally published on explorington.com Call it our wedding anniversary, the final weekend before school, an early celebration of Octavia's birthday, or just Labour Day; on September long weekend, I led a group of families on a traverse of Strathcona Park. I've hiked the route between Raven Lodge and the Old Forbidden Plateau ski lodge on two previous occasions. [ 944 more words ] http://islandmountainramblers.com//paradise-meadows-to-wo/

From @murrkittai: From life before smoke... The Sunshine to Mt Shark hike through Mt Assiniboine Park is definitely a Rockies classic. Unfortunately, like most of the classics a combination of increased interest, luxury industrial tourism (heli access) and BC & Canada's continued neglect of the trail networks has concentrated more and more use on this stunning area. I had mostly given up on ever seeing it - half because I thought I'd never get a reservation and half because ...I wasn't sure I wanted to see it with 400 people traipsing through the meadows. In this very weird year, we found Magog Lake campground half empty (although fully reserved, thanks for nothing BC Parks), steady but light traffic on the trails and fine weather at the end of August. Mile for mile I'm not sure you can beat the nonstop views on this quite easy & exquisitely well maintained 55-65 km trail. I guess the people madly refreshing the BC Parks website every year to book it do have a point.

August 19, 2020 ~ submitted by Quinn Park A quiet Wednesday evening led to us check out the crags. Most folks did not climb and were just there to check out the scenery. With not a tonne of time (and a healthy portion of it spent on showing folks the tour of my favourite conglomerate crag on the south island) we only were able to get ropes on "The Roof Is On Fire 5.10a" and "Salamander 5.7." Both were fun routes. http://islandmountainramblers.com//climbing-at-sansum-nar/
