The fall colours in the garden at IslandSkye continue to amaze me. It is now well into October and something new comes out every couple of days. We have nerine lilies, asters, sedum, and berries on the cottoneaster. The California poppies just keep on blooming and the dwarf fuschia are at their best. The pomegranates are turning colour but will not ripen enough to eat. I love living in the Cowichan.
The hummingbirds keep us entertained all summer. One little guy protects the Cape Fuchsia from invaders all season long. Today there was a running battle for an hour. It was quite amusing.
It’s been five years since we purchased our property and named it IslandSkye. The gardens we inherited and have built upon were the love product of Jacquie Cadorette. Thank you Jacquie for the work you put in establishing this beauty. This spring has seen the most verdant displays of those years. The relatively mild winter, gradual warming and plenty of showers have seen the gardens thrive. The tree and herbaceous peonies are waning, but the intersectional are still to come. They have plenty of rivals for show this spring. Vivian, this post is at your request .

The peonies are coming out, first the tree varieties, then the herbaceous, and finally (but not yet) the intersectional. There are well over 100 peonies on the property at IslandSkye and May is our most colourful month.
The new arbour into the lower garden is finished, warm enough today to stain. The blooming laburnum is a nice backdrop. The planter box has a climbing rose, screened in to protect from the deer.
We may not be able to have you visit right now, but we can bring IslandSkye to you. There is a subtleness in spring flowers, soon to be overshadowed by the peonies, which are just getting ready to open. Stay well and stay safe everyone and we hope to see you before too long.

In an uncertain time, a rainbow is a welcome sign. Photos taken this morning from IslandSkye looking out over Lake Quamichan towards Mt. Prevost.
First peony of the season, 100 more to come. Every shade and type you can imagine.

Spring may not be truly here yet, but the sun is out, it’s 11 degrees Celsius. Late January flowers include cyclamen, yellow aconites, daffodils and snowdrops.

The Cowichan has so much to discover and offer and so close to Vancouver and Victoria. While here, come allow IslandSkye Bed and Breakfast to share the beauty, culture and cuisine of the Cowichan with you.
It’s been a cool early spring in the Cowichan. The early Irises are beautifully small but brilliant colours.

Quamichan Lake is especially beautiful this winter morning. The sun on the far shore, the fog over Somenos, Mt. Prevost rising to the morning sky, and a crisp 5 degrees Celsius . I love living in the Cowichan.

Remembrance Day was last Monday and this one last poppy decided it was time to come out.
A beautiful time of year with all the Maple trees.
The B and B where we are staying in Summerside PEI (the Warn House) got hit hard by Dorian. The local paper today ran an article on the cleanup at the B and B. The irony is that four boys from the Bahamas came to help.
