WE'RE BACK!!! After a great response to the workout series held earlier this year, dancer Madelaine McCallum will be hosting another six weeks of free Jig Fit and Powwow Impact fitness classes! Madelaine McCallum, who is a Cree/Métis artist, dancer and choreographer originally from Île-à-la-Crosse, Saskatchewan, will share her passion and knowledge of dance and culture in these energizing workouts for all ages hosted live over the virtual platform Zoom.... Jig Fit Workout Series Weekly on THURSDAYS: April 15 - May 20 6 to 7 PM Live via Zoom In the Jig Fit workout series, Madelaine will share Métis jig dance steps in fun, upbeat workouts that will feature both traditional and contemporary music. Steps and movements utilized in these fitness workouts originate from dances such as the Red River Jig, Belt Dance, Broom Dance and Orange Blossom Special. JIG FIT WORKOUTS - SIGN UP HERE Powwow Impact Workout Series Weekly on TUESDAYS: April 20 - May 25 6 to 7 PM Live via Zoom In the Powwow Impact workout series, Madelaine will feature basic powwow dance steps in a fitness workout that sequences movements through choreography. Each workout session will feature a variety of powwow steps to help participants break a sweat and get fit! POWWOW IMPACT WORKOUTS - SIGN UP HERE Both of these workout series are free to register. Drop in for one or all sessions in the series! All ages and abilities are welcome to join.

This project is a partnership between Fraser Health, First Nations Health Authority and Seabird Island Health to build on the legacy of Indigenous youth resiliency-building and life-promoting work completed by the YOTL project with CIHR, UFV and Sto:lo Nation over the last several years. We will be hosting this event series on Zoom, every second Monday evening from 6pm 8pm. Open to ALL Indigenous youth aged 12-24 across Fraser Salish region! ...(From Burnaby to Boston Bar). Each event will share cultural teachings, traditional skills-building, health and wellness tips, prizes, and more! Events are being planned according to traditional seasonal activities and ceremonies in the Fraser Salish region. Internati...onally, these recommendations serve as the first set of integrative movement behaviour guidelines for this population.
