Just because a dog knows the right choice to make doesn’t mean he will make it. Whatever he did as habit will likely take over without our guidance . Your dog may have been making the wrong choice due to a poor habit it has developed over time. It’s up to us as owners to show our dog the right choice in certain situations and make that choice your dogs new habit. . This is why behaviour rehab can take so much time with dogs who have very strong habits.... . A habit is any behavior that is repeated often enough to become automatic and almost effortless. And if certain conditions are present when you are learning the behavior (a particular environment, for example), eventually those conditions will tend to trigger the habit or make it easier to perform. . Continue to show your dog what choices not to make and which ones to make until he continuously makes the right choice. See more

Do not buy and e collar just to correct your dog. Yes an e collar can be great for behaviour modification but there is a process involved. You don’t just set the e collar on a high level and press the button until the behaviour stops.... The e collar should be used at low levels usually for about two weeks so your dog can understand how to turn off the sensation. There is the conditioning phase, intermittent phase and lastly the maintenance or correction phase. Once your dog has solid understanding of what that sensation means and has completed the three phases then it can be used on higher levels. The correction you use will be dependent on the environment, your dogs current state mind, e collar placement, timing and so on. There is A-LOT more to it then what YouTube tells you so please leave it to a trainer.

A prong collar isn’t mean to be put on a dog to yank around. . An e collar isn’t meant to be put on a dog to blast it with corrections.. . A flat collar isn’t meant to be put on the dog because it looks safe just to allow your dog to pull and ruin the internals of its throat.... . The list goes on. . Any tool you choose to use with your dog needs to be TAUGHT to your dog not abused. It’s not the tool that gets the results. It is the skill and knowledge of the person using that tool. . Throwing a tool on a dog with the intention that the tool alone will solve a problem is what you should never do.

We can make some great changes with your dog during our programs. What we can’t do is give you the discipline and consistency to maintain that training back home. Just like a diet. Your nutritionist can show you what to eat and even make your meals for you but it’s on you to eat them. Stop making excuses ! Your dog needs your follow through ..

Dog Parks Why don’t we recommend dog parks? They are gross.... Not only does every dog use it as their toilet, your dog is also playing in that toilet. The amount of bacteria and diseases that your dog can pick up is not worth it. The majority of individuals who take their dogs here on a regular basis don’t understand canine body language and this skill is an absolute necessity when taking your dog to a dog park. Without it how will you know when to stop an interaction before it gets out of hand? Dog fights. Another common scene at dog parks. All because owners don’t understand canine body language or because they simply do not have control over their dogs. Zero recall. A command that has to be mastered if you plan on going to the dog park is recall. Does your dog come back to you when called no matter what the situation is? For all the dog parks we’ve been too all we see is dog’s who have learned irrelevance. This is the typical scene of the owner telling their dogs no or stop it or come and the dog just blows them off because there is no consequence for not listening and its more motivating to continue whatever they are doing. This can lead to a variety of issues. Overtime the nervous or independent dog who is constantly forced to interact will develop fear aggression and the bully who is constantly overexcited and pushy will become more assertive and intense with repetition just be attacked by that dog who will only put up with it for so long. And the list can go on..

Rescuing A Dog May Not Be The End. It may just the beginning. When rescuing a dog you are telling yourself and that dog that you are prepared to solve whatever problem that dog comes with. A lot of dogs who are rescued from very unfortunate situations and often have behavioural issues.... These dogs need someone who can truly commit to improving their quality of life! Someone who can handle the responsibility and takes the appropriate approach to better that dogs quality of life. And guess what? The answer isn’t treats and constantly spoiling the dog. Your job is to provide that dog with a home, training and lifestyle that will improve that dogs state of mind. Some things to think about before rescuing a dog are: Do you have the time? Do you have the money for the proper training? Do you have the proper knowledge? Do you have the proper lifestyle? Are you doing is strictly out of emotion? Are you struggling with your own life and now adding another struggle? Sometimes just giving a dog a safe place, food and water isn’t enough. There is a lot of planning that you need to do before taking this on so please plan ahead and understand that if you are not prepared things can go south very quickly. This post can also go for anyone looking to purchase a puppy from a breeder as well!

Leo came to us full of anxiety and overexcitement. . Any new situation he was in would involve screaming, whining, barking, running in circles and not being able to settle. . Leo is a prime example of a dog that needs consistent direction and structure to remain calm and confident.... . Here he is seen on a field trip. He can settle almost immediately in multiple different environments. . Good boy Leo See more
