Itty bitty critters Wildlife Rehabilitation 22.05.2021

Special thanks go out to The Bug Guys. They went to great lengths (where others wouldn’t have) to reunite Mom and babies but had to stop when the health of the babies would start to be affected. Thank you for doing what’s right. With that being said we welcome these 5 little ones to the rehab.

This is in answer to everyone who’s asked do siblings recognize each other. This shows the importance of keeping siblings together. Shared with permission of original poster.

This wee babe was brought in all alone today. Incredibly dehydrated and cold with her umbilical cord site still healing. At only 10 grams this little girl has a very long road ahead of her. Thanks to Ange and Will for trying to reunite before bringing her in for care.

As more housing developments pop up, wildlife residents find themselves having to look for shelter or food in and around these strange new houses. Even though... this home's window well had a plastic cover, this poor muskrat found a breach, ended up falling in, unable to get out. Fortunately the compassionate home owners called for advise. They lowered a board at just the right angle and this little fellow was able to climb out. Every year we receive many, many calls to help baby and juvenile skunks, raccoons, opossums, etc out of window wells, some as deep as 4 ft! It's an easy fix. If you don't like the plastic domes, there are now many attractive window well covers available. Please take advantage of the warm weather to walk around your home and check for potential hazards to wildlife. *Baby season has arrived.* Cover up your window wells and entrances under decks and outbuildings. A reminder...trapping and relocating wildlife more than a kilometer is illegal in Ontario. More important...it's a death sentence for the animal, it potentially leaves babies to die and it just opens the door for another one to take its place. Learning to co-exist with our furry friends ensures your environmental area remain stable. And it provides you with the enjoyment of seeing diverse wildlife right outside your window. See more

The season is upon us. Another little member joins the group. He was brought in after being found alone at the base of a tree. The Finder tried to reunite this little one with his Momma but couldn’t make it happen. If you find what you believe to be an orphaned animal please call a rehabber first. Reuniting them with their Momma gives them the best chance at a full life. We can help you make that happen.
